Jurgen Klopp’s X-rated Crystal Palace comment as ex-Liverpool boss attends title party

Jurgen Klopp is set to return to Liverpool this weekend as the Reds finally get the chance to lift the Premier League trophy and its against an opponent that has regularly caused issues for the German

Jurgen Klopp makes his much-anticipated return to Liverpool this weekend – but the German might not be totally happy. The German is set to be at Anfield on Sunday as the Reds lift the Premier League trophy following their final game of the season against Crystal Palace.

And while it will certainly be a happy occasion for Klopp, who is expected to play a part in his celebrations after seeing his own disrupted by Covid, he might be a little bit uncomfortable at the prospect of his former side taking on Crystal Palace.

Klopp had his fair share of issues with the recently crowned FA Cup winners during his time on Merseyside, a theme that stretches all the way back to his debut season. Following his arrival at Anfield in October 2015, Klopp enjoyed an excellent start to life as Liverpool boss.

Klopp lost just one of his opening 11 games as manager – that solitary defeat coming against Crystal Palace at Anfield. And that was a result that clearly wrangled with him.

Speaking in a press conference, he said: “Sometimes I would really like to change my personality but I can’t forget this f****** loss against Crystal Palace. If we had won this, I would say my first ten games were OK.”

Palace were also at the heart of Klopp’s frustrations during his final season. Following a 1-0 defeat to the Eagles last term, he publicly slammed his players.

He said: “The first half we were open like ‘how can that happen?’ Curtis [Jones] was the only one really chasing, really getting out and from time to time broke their rhythm. Beside that they [Palace] could just play through. They [Liverpool] were horrible to watch.”

Having been out of the dugout for nearly a year now, Klopp appears to be in far better spirits. And he’s certainly looking forward to celebrating with his former side.

What XI should Arne Slot name vs Crystal Palace? Share your thoughts in the comments below

Speaking in a video to supporters on the club’s Twitter account, he said: “Hello. So now I’m back, back in Liverpool. Back here in the wonderful cathedral for the Liverpool Foundation. Finally. Took me a year to find a way back. But, now I’m here. What a weekend ahead. Wow.

“I heard the city will be buzzing. I’m pretty sure it will be and I see it from a different perspective. From a very good perspective. From your perspective. I told you on my last day from now on, I will be one of you.

“Yeah, okay, maybe standing in a black suit is maybe not the best example but at the weekend, I’ll try to be in as much as you let me. I’ll try to be part of it as much as you let me. So congratulations for last season.

“Fantastic, fantastic, fantastic. I enjoyed it so much. Congratulations to the team. Congratulations to Arne especially. What a guy and what a coach and let’s have the best weekend of our lives so far because there are loads of great weekends will follow with this wonderful team and this great club. All the best.”
