Kamala Harris is considering running for US President again and brands Donald Trump a ‘tyrant’

Kamala Harris is considering running for President again, because she’s “not done.” The former Vice President, who lost the 2024 election to Donald Trump, told the BBC she would “possibly” be President one day – her strongest indication yet that she is plotting another bid for the White House.

She told Laura Kuenssberg she could “for sure” see a female president during the lifetime of her grandnieces. And asked if it would be her, she said: “possibly.”

“I am not done,” she said. “I have lived my entire career as a life of service and it’s in my bones.” While bookmakers have her as an outsider in the race to be the next Democratic Presidential candidate, polls put her out in front. A national polling average puts her 3.6 points ahead of the nearest rival, California Governor Gavin Newsom. Pete Buttigieg, who served as Biden’s Transport Secretary, is a distant third on just 9.6%.

But she told the BBC she never believes the polls. “If I listened to polls I would have not run for my first office, or my second office – and I certainly wouldn’t be sitting here,” she said.

Turning to Trump, Harris branded him a “tyrant” and said her predictions that he would behave like a fascist had come true – and had been demonstrated when his administration went after late-night TV host Jimmy Kimmel.

She said: “You look at what has happened in terms of how he has weaponised, for example, federal agencies going around after political satirists… His skin is so thin he couldn’t endure criticism from a joke, and attempted to shut down an entire media organisation in the process.”

And she criticise business leaders who had bowed to Trump’s demands. Yesterday, the White House published a list of the companies and individuals who had donated cash to build Trump’s gaudy vanity ballroom – which included tech giants including Apple, Google, Amazon and Microsoft.

She said: “There are many… that have capitulated since day one, who are bending the knee at the foot of a tyrant, I believe for many reasons, including they want to be next to power, because they want to perhaps have a merger approved or avoid an investigation.”

The full interview will be broadcast on Sunday morning as part of Ms Kuenssberg’s BBC One programme.
