Rapper Kanye West has revealed he lost $2billion in just one day and had his accounts frozen which left him unable to pay for dinner as he speaks out about his finances
Kanye West has revealed his friends had to buy him dinner after losing $2billion in one day.
The rapper, who hit headlines across the world for his wife Bianca Censori’s naked dress at the Grammys this week, has suggested he is no longer a billionaire. He claimed his assets were frozen amid him being cancelled. Kayne lost money following his anti-Semitic online rants that saw Adidas and other global brands cut ties with him.
He has since laid bare his financial situation and admitted to having issues with his cash flow. Kanye told Justin Laboy: “We never was unrich.” Justin shared: “What was the restaurant we were at that closed down? Beauty & Essex. We were going there to eat every day. I remember when they froze your accounts. Man, I remember I had to put my little American Express down.
“That was the first time I saw a billionaire have no access to money.” Kanye replied on The Download podcast: “It was crazy. It was like some Black Mirror episode. They wanted to do everything to prove to me that I didn’t have the right to say anything out loud that went against the people who own the media and the people who own the music industry – the people that Drake is going up against right now, ironically.
“We can say anything. We can say, ‘I’ma kill you’, we can say, ‘I’ma sell drugs to you,’ we can say, ‘I do drugs,’ but you can’t message that. You can’t even message on a song because there’s censorship still.” Later on in the episode, Kanye discussed money again. He said: “When you got money, you go in and prove you have got money.
“I remember when I lost all the money, I was like ‘damn I better start dressing like a millionaire now’, which actually means more jewellery. When you are a billionaire you can dress super bummy. A n***** is never going to sell his chain, it doesn’t matter, n***** sell their children before their chain.”
Last month, Kanye bragged about his whopping net worth in a post on Instagram. He wrote: “In 2025, Kanye’s net work stands at $2.77billion US as confirmed by Eton Venture Services. The valuation is based on his music portfolio and his sole ownership of the Yeezy mark.” The rapper captioned the post: “LAA LA LA LA.” Last year, he shelled out millions on some advertising space during the Super Bowl, and he later took to social media to say it paid off as he gained $19million in sales.
“I’m just be honest with y’all. I was two months from going bankrupt, and I put everything I had into it [the album and the Super Bowl advert],” he said, referring to his Vulture album. Kanye claimed as his money started to dwindle, he moved to Italy with his wife Bianca and said: “We moved to Italy. We moved to the factories, and we survived. We survived through the cancellation. We’re back number one.”
