The Prince and Princess of Wales are preparing to return to royal duties with their first official engagement in seven weeks, as their children return to school for a new academic year.

William and Kate’s last official outing came when they, along with Prince George and Princess Charlotte, attended the Wimbledon Championships for the men’s singles final on July 13.

Now, with George, Charlotte and Prince Louis all returning to the classrooms of Lambrook today for a new school year, William and Kate are diving back into their royal duties with an appearance planned at London’s Natural History Museum tomorrow.

Kensington Palace announced on Monday that the Prince and Princess of Wales will visit the newly transformed gardens of the iconic museum on Thursday, marking their return to work after enjoying their summer break in Balmoral.

Princess Kate is patron of the museum, and the royal couple will visit to see the gallery’s newly refreshed gardens and meet young people participating in programs designed to connect them with nature and boost biodiversity in urban spaces.

William and Kate will also be shown how cutting-edge technology is being used around the gardens to inform the Museum’s tireless conservation efforts.

Environmental innovation and instilling an appreciation for nature in the next generation are values close to both Prince William and Princess Kate’s hearts, as are initiatives around education.

The Prince of Wales is the founder of the Earthshot Prize, a prestigious global environmental contest accelerating change through a 10-year campaign, while Princess Kate celebrates the outdoors through her ongoing “Mother Nature” video series and has spoken about how nature brought her peace while she was undergoing treatment for cancer.

Their appearance on Thursday will be the first time the Prince and Princess have been spotted since they were snapped driving to church for a Sunday service at Crathie Kirk near Balmoral Castle.

Crathie Kirk is the royal family ‘s go-to church during summer stays at Balmoral Castle, which became a tradition for the royal family during the reign of the late Queen Elizabeth.

William and Kate travelled to the church service with their three children, who are heading back to school today for the start of a new school year. George, Charlotte and Louis all attend the co-educational prep school near their home in Windsor, with this year being George’s last year at the institution before he transitions to secondary school.
