Kate Middleton has been spotted wearing her white silk vest top on multiple occasions, most often paired with one of her tailored suits. And it’s now on sale with 40% off
If there’s one thing Kate Middleton understands, it’s the power of having an elevated basic in your wardrobe. The Princess of Wales is known for her love of re-wearing her favourite clothes time and time again, and one of her favourite re-wears is so subtle, you might not have even noticed it.
Peeking out from underneath numerous blazers and power suits is her Joseph Silk-Blend Tank Top, which is the perfect way to upgrade a simple wardrobe staple. Currently you can get your hands on Kate’s exact vest top with a huge 40% discount at Net-a-Porter, where it’s slashed from £215 to £129, saving you almost £100.

A white vest top might be the easiest addition to plenty of outfits, but a typical cotton or synthetic version can look a little laid back or casual for more formal or smart settings. Swapping from cotton to silk helps give it a more elevated look, so you can wear it to the office beneath a blazer with some tailored trousers like Kate’s favourite way to style it, or paired with some simple jeans and loafers for warmer days.
The material of the Joseph Silk-Blend Tank Top creates a more polished finish, with an elegant drape that looks understated and expensive. Silk is also great for warmer weather, helping keep you cool and comfortable, whilst still working as a great layer in chilly weather.
Princess Kate has worn her Joseph Silk-Blend Tank Top most recently in June during a trip to the V&A East Storehouse, where she paired it with a dark teal blazer and tailored trousers. She’s also previously worn it in 2023 for a visit to the Royal Naval Air Station (RNAS) Yeovilton, with a black fitted blazer and slim fitting trousers, cementing it as her favourite piece to pair with her suits.
The tank top is part of Joseph’s Foundations collection, which is full of streamlined and versatile wardrobe basics that are easy to build elevated looks around. It has a slim fit that’s perfect for wearing either tucked in, loose, or for layering underneath other pieces.
It’s also made from 62% silk and 34% polyamide with 4% elastane, rather than 100% pure silk, which means it still has the look and feel of pure silk whilst being easier to care for. You can pop the Joseph Silk-Blend Tank Top into the washing machine, and the addition of polyamide means it’ll crease a little less than true silk.
If the cost of Princess Kate’s exact silk vest top is still a little out of budget despite its 40% discount, we also managed to track down some other great alternatives on the high street. At Reiss the Ruby Silk-Front Cami Top in White is £88 and comes in four different colours; white, brown, black and cream.
The Reiss vest top has a front panel which is 92% silk, whilst the back panel is made from a soft stretch jersey. This not only keeps the cost down, but creates a comfortable and easy to wear contrasting fit that hangs beautifully.
We also spotted a bargain at COS, where the Ribbed Silk Tank Top is now £45, down from £65. The vest is made from 100% mulberry silk jersey with a ribbed finish, and is available in both black and white.
