The Princess of Wales wore a very special pair of earrings with sentimental value for the St. Patrick’s Day parade
Kate Middleton stepped out today, March 17, for the annual St Patrick’s Day parade, much to the delight of royal fans who missed her greatly in 2024 when she couldn’t attend due to her health struggles.
Wearing a gorgeous custom coat from Alexander McQueen, Kate’s designer of choice in recent months, it would be easy not to look past her chic head-to-toe forest green outfit. However, if you glance at her ears, you’ll spot she wore a unique pair of earrings. We say unique because the jewellery Kate chose to wear for the occasion featured green amethysts – much less common than purple amethysts.
But it’s not just the colour of the quartz, rather what the stone signifies. Green amethyst, also known as prasiolite, is said to symbolise compassion, abundance, self-reliance and prosperity. Perhaps more specifically relevant to the Princess of Wales on her current path back to full health, it’s also associated with growth, health, happiness and harmony.
You might imagine a special pair of earrings like this would be an heirloom, but you can shop them for yourself from a brand with modern designs that Kate very much seems to favour: Kiki McDonough. Kate’s exact double drop pair aren’t available online at the moment, but you can pick up Kiki’s Classics Green Amethyst Pear Drop Earrings for £695 – which is great value considering many of Kiki’s designs retail for over £2k.

This beautiful pair of earrings feature pear drop green amethyst set in 18ct yellow gold, and certainly add a touch of elegance to any outfit, as Kate proved perfectly.
Green quartz itself also has sentimental value for Kate. Prince William gifted his now-wife a different, but equally beautiful, pair of green amethyst earrings from Kiki McDonough in 2011, which she debuted for the Royal Family’s annual walk to church on Christmas Day that same year. It’s also rumoured that Kate owns around 20 pieces of jewellery from this designer, so we have to wonder if William has gifted her many more pairs of sentimental earrings for special occasions.
If you don’t have the budget for a pair of Kiki earrings, Mounir London’s Carved Green Amethyst Earrings for £66 are a very pretty alternative.
