The Met said a 34-year-old man has been arrested in Chelsea following three fires in the past fortnight
Police have arrested a third man in connection with an arson attack at Keir Starmer’s family home and two other blazes.
The Met said a 34-year-old man has been arrested in Chelsea. It follows the arrest of two other suspects, aged 21 and 26. Officers were called to the PM’s North London home in the early hours of last Monday, less than a day after another property linked to him was targeted.
And on the previous Thursday a car was set alight close to the PM’s home. Counter-terrorism police have led the investigation.
It comes after Roman Lavrynovych, a Ukrainian national, was arrested at an address in Sydenham, south-east London, in the early hours of Tuesday. The latest suspect was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit arson with intent to endanger life.
His arrest follows that of a 26-year-old man, who was detained on suspicion of the same offence on Saturday at Luton Airport.
Lavrynovych, of Sydenham, south-east London, denied arson in a police interview. He appeared in court on Friday and was remanded in custody until a further hearing at the Old Bailey scheduled for June 6.
The Met said in a statement: “The arrests relate to three incidents – a vehicle fire in NW5 on 8 May, a fire at the entrance of a property in N7 on 11 May and a fire at a residential address in NW5 in the early hours of 12 May.
“All have connections with a high-profile public figure, and therefore officers from the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command have led the investigation into the fires.”
