A crazed drug addict who beat a man to death ordered a stranger to revive him by shoving ice in his victim’s backside.

Daniel Paul Hasapis has been sentenced for 26 years following the deadly attack which took place inside an apartment block in the town of Wyong, NSW, Australia. Drug addict Hasapis had gone to supply cannabis to two women, including his estranged partner Bonnie Cullen and Mariana Taitoko but at the same time blamed Sean Froggatt for some items being missing. He beat Froggatt to death inside a spare bedroom and inflicted 71 injuries, including punching, kicking and hitting him with a gold chain.

Justice Adams described the assault as “gratuitous cruelty” and classed Froggatt as vulnerable. Hasapis and Cullen had left the room but when they came back 15 minutes later, they noticed he wasn’t breathing. As part of a bizarre request, Hasapis told Taitoko to use ice to revive him.

“The offender told Ms Taitoko to bring the deceased back to life,” Justice Adams said. “She tried mouth-to-mouth resuscitation and chest compressions. It did not work. The offender told her to put ice in his bum and breathe it into his mouth. She did this but this did not work either.”

The victim’s body was then wrapped up in a sheet and dumped inside the bathtub. The two women were ordered to clean up the bloodied scene. Police were called to the property the next day following reports that Taitoko was injured during Froggatt’s assault. Officers attended and found his corpse in the bathroom.

Cullen was charged with being an accessory to murder and was released after serving a two-year and three-day non-parole period. Hasapis was sentenced to a maximum of 26 years behind bars.
