King Charles’ ‘sign of change’ at VE Day service after Prince Harry onslaught

By staff8 May 2025No Comments3 Mins Read

King Charles was joined by other members of the Royal Family at a special service to mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day, just days after Prince Harry’s outburst about his father ‘refusing to talk’

King Charles and other members of the Royal Family attended the special VE Day service at Westminster Abbey today to commemorate the 80th anniversary. The service comes just days after Prince Harry’s controversial BBC interview, in which he made various swipes at his father and noted his illness.

Now, an expert has detailed a significant change in the monarch during his appearance at today’s VE Day service. The poignant ceremony was held to commemorate the milestone anniversary of it being eight decades since the UK declared Victory in Europe and ended World War II. This time 80 years ago, the nation erupted in jubilation as news of the end of hostilities against Nazi Germany spread, with crowds notably gathering in celebration outside Buckingham Palace, where they cheered for King George VI.

In a moving tribute, Charles laid a floral wreath at the Grave of the Unknown Warrior, situated near Westminster Abbey’s west door, on behalf of the nation and the Commonwealth. A heartfelt, handwritten note from the monarch, paying respects to those who lost their lives in WWII, read: “We will never forget.”

As the Royal Family came together for the day of remembrance and reflection, body language expert Judi James commented on the King’s ‘new’ and tactile approach when greeting people.

Judi exclusively told the Mirror: “Charles has become much more tactile with the people he meets. He held hands and arms, and he offered some affectionate pats in a way that he would not have done so naturally prior to his illness.”

The expert commented further on the King’s body language and his joy to be gathered together on the special day, despite apparent digs made by his youngest son just days ago. “Charles looked touched and delighted to be sharing some jokes and gentle touch rituals with the veterans while William and Kate presented the calm elegance of the next generation,” Judi explained.

The King and Queen Camilla were accompanied by the Prince and Princess of Wales, Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, veterans, and others to acknowledge the significant event today. The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, Princess Royal, Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence, the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester and the Duke of Kent were also in attendance.

Noting the Royal Family and their united front, Judi added: “There was a strong message from the body language of the royals today that they had established a ‘New Normal’ in terms of going back to basics. This was a professional and drama-free appearance.”

She also shared: “As a display of solid, impeccable confidence and professionalism, the Firm turned out an immaculate performance today, reminding the public how royals used to be before two generations of drama. The focus here was on the veterans rather than the royals.”
