Kneecap share update on Glastonbury police investigation – ‘We will continue to fight’

Kneecap said they will ‘continue to fight’ and ‘continue to win’ as they shared an update on the criminal investigation over their Glastonbury performance last month

Kneecap have shared an update concerning the police investigation into their Glastonbury Festival performance last month. Kneecap and Bob Vylan have faced strong backlash for their comments on stage at the festival, which included chants of “Death to the IDF” from Bob Vylan and “F*** Keir Starmer ” from Kneecap.

Following their performance, Avon and Somerset Police said they were investigating their sets from the Worthy Farm festival. They said last month: “Video footage and audio from Bob Vylan and Kneecap’s performances at Glastonbury Festival on Saturday has been reviewed. Following the completion of that assessment process we have decided further enquiries are required and a criminal investigation is now being undertaken. A senior detective has been appointed to lead this investigation.

“This has been recorded as a public order incident at this time while our enquiries are at an early stage. The investigation will be evidence-led and will closely consider all appropriate legislation, including relating to hate crimes.” We have received a large amount of contact in relation to these events from people across the world and recognise the strength of public feeling. There is absolutely no place in society for hate.

“Neighbourhood policing teams are speaking with people in their local communities and key stakeholders to make sure anyone who needs us knows that we are here for them. We hope the work we have carried out, and are continuing to carry out, reassures the public how seriously we are treating Saturday’s events. We politely ask the public refrain from continuing to report this matter to us because an investigation is already taking place.”

Weeks later, Kneecap took to their X/Twitter page to reveal no further action is being taken against them. The Belfast trio shared a screenshot of the email from the Detective Superintendent.

The email sent to Kneecap’s lawyers read: “I am Senior Investigating Officer for Avon and Somerset Police’s investigation into Kneecap’s performance at the Glastonbury Festival on 28th June 2025. Following a review of the evidence, I have determined there will be o further action. I would be grateful if you could communicate this to your clients, an/or advise me of an alternate way of contacting them.”

Sharing a statement with the screenshot, Kneecap wrote: “One element of the political policing intimidation attempt is over. We played a historic set at Glastonbury. Whole area closed an hour before due to crowds. A celebration of love and solidarity. A sea of good people at the world’s most famous festival.

“Shortly afterwards we learn of an active police investigation. An investigation that followed after the Prime Minister himself said it “was not appropriate” we played Glastonbury.

“Walk off stage to the rapturous sounds of good people and into the creaking scheming sounds of the establishment. This “investigation” was reported across the world’s media often with wildly misleading headlines.

“Every single person who saw our set knew no law was broken, not even close….yet the police saw fit to publicly announce they were opening an investigation. Why open and publicise an investigation into f**k all? This is political. This is targeted. This is state intimidation.”

They concluded: “After the media damage is inflicted and seen by millions of eyes – you receive a private email to say there’s no evidence and no action – that is seen by two people only. There is no public apology, they don’t send this to media or post it on police accounts. We will continue to fight. We will continue to win.”

The Mirror have reached out to Avon and Somerset Police for further comment.
