Kylian Mbappe’s move to Real Madrid is believed to be on the cards, but Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has admitted no decision has been made as of yet
Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi is keeping his cards close to his chest when it comes to Kylian Mbappe’s club future.
The PSG forward has long been touted with a move to Real Madrid. The Spanish giants have been linked with a move for the World Cup winner across multiple windows and now he appeals to be on the cusp of finally making the switch.
Mbappe’s PSG contract expires in the summer, meaning he can leave the Ligue 1 champions for nothing in June. Multiple publications in France are claiming that the forward’s mind is made up.
In turn, PSG chief Al-Khelaifi has had to face questions over Mbappe. Asked for an update ahead of Saturday’s meeting with Lille, he kept it short and sweet by declaring: “When we have both decided, we will tell you.”
This is not the first time PSG’s president has discussed a potential transfer for Mbappe. In the past, Al-Khelaifi has made clear he hopes the Bondy-born superstar remains at the club.
He told RMC: “Look, I’m not hiding anything. For sure I want Mbappe to stay. For me he is the best in the world and for me the best club for Kylian is Paris.”
If Mbappe is to seal his switch to the Santiago Bernabeu, then he won’t come cheap for Real Madrid – even on a free transfer.
He wants staggering salary of €50million (£42.6m) per year, which would make the 25-year-old the highest paid player by some distance, pocketing much more than the likes of Jude Bellingham and Vinicius Junior.

Mbappe is also believed to have asked for a €125m (£106m) signing bonus – in place of the stunning transfer fee that Real Madrid would have had to pay were the forward not out of contract. It’s been claimed that figure will be split between the player and his mother (also his agent), Fayza Lamari.
Mbappe also wants to retain a major part of his image rights. Traditionally Los Blancos tend to retain the full rights of players, although they have previously been willing to make exceptions with star names – notably Cristiano Ronaldo – and it is believed that they would be willing to give up as much as 60 per cent of them to meet his demands.
There remains a chance that Mbappe does eschew a move to Madrid however, by activating the one-year extension in his deal, which he signed in May 2022. That clause has to be activated by the player himself.
