Coronation Street star Kym Marsh paid tribute to her late father David Marsh this week for a special occasion after recently sharing advice for those dealing with ‘hard times’
TV presenter Kym Marsh has paid tribute to her late father David Marsh in a heartfelt post for a milestone birthday. It comes after she teased that life isn’t a “fairy tale” recently. The moving post comes in the wake of the star splitting from her ‘soulmate’ partner.
Kym, now 48, announced in January last year that her late father David had passed away, aged 78, years after being diagnosed with cancer. The actor has paid tribute to her dad and spoken about dealing with grief since the loss.
The Waterloo Road cast member has now marked David’s 80th birthday in a post on Instagram. Earlier this evening she shared a photo of him smiling as he held a bowl of ice cream and alongside it she paid tribute on the platform.
She wrote in a message to her late dad: “Happy heavenly birthday Poppa Bear. You would have been 80 today and I so wish you were here to celebrate that! I would love nothing more than to hear you laugh and tell jokes and look at your amazing smiley face. I miss you so much Dad.”
Kym added: “You have left a huge hole in my life that can never be filled. My hero. My biggest champion. My world. I love you always and forever, or as you would say, to Aldi and back!! Have fun up there. Always your shadow, Kym.”
Over the past year, Kym has spoken about grief and the occasion this week comes after she shared some advice about dealing with “hard times” recently. In an interview with Closer magazine, as previously reported, she suggested that “life is always a struggle” and teased that she will “put herself first for once” ahead of her 50th birthday next year.
She told the outlet: “Life is always a struggle – it’s not like all of a sudden, it’s a fairy tale.” Kym then said that there are “always things” that people are struggling with, whether that be a “hard time” or “trying to achieve a dream,” before adding that her advice is to “just keep going”. She teased that in her experience things “eventually” seem to “pay off”.
The former Coronation Street star also spoke about her 50th birthday next year, teasing that she could celebrate each month until the special occasion. She told the outlet: “I have a tendency to always put others before myself, so this year, I’m going to [put myself first] and I think that’s the right thing to do, especially when you’re heading for the big 5-0.”
Those remarks come following reports that Kym separated from her partner Samuel Thomas, 29, just months ago. They met whilst working on 101 Dalmatians – The Musical together and she later teased that he was her “soulmate”.
Last month, it was reported that the pair had parted ways towards the end of last year after touring together. A source told the Sun that they had fallen “head over heels” when they first met but added that it became “harder to spend time together” after her role in the tour ended.
The source said: “Once Kym’s role in 101 Dalmatians ended it became harder to spend time together and some of the magic they had at the beginning just disappeared.” They added: “It’s such a shame, especially before Christmas, but Kym surrounded herself with family.”
A source later told OK! magazine: “It’s been hard for Kym, but she’s feeling like she’s got herself back and is really throwing herself into work.” They added that she’s “so busy” with work, teasing that she has “loads coming up this year”.
They continued by telling the outlet: “She’s done really well on Waterloo Road and is loving that, she’s feeling like she’s in a strong position to really focus on her career. This journey of loving herself again has given her a real boost of confidence to get these new roles and get stuck in.”
