Irish police were first notified about Kyran Durin’s disappearance in August this year although they suspect the young boy had been killed two years prior to them being notified
A woman has been arrested on suspicion of murder over the disappearance of eight-year-old boy Kyran Durnin, Irish police have revealed.
Gardaí (Irish police) announced the woman had been apprehended today following the disappearance of little Kyran two years ago. According to local outlets, Kyran was first reported as missing in August this year, but Gardaí suspect he was killed two years ago.
“Gardaí investigating the disappearance and murder of Kyran Durnin (eight years) have today, Tuesday December 10, 2024, arrested a female on suspicion of murder,” a Garda spokesperson told The Mirror. “The woman is being detained under Section 4 Criminal Justice Act 1984 at a Garda Station in the East of the Country.”
According to The Journal, a search at Kyran’s former family home in Dundalk was carried out in October this year. The home was searched and is known to have been Kyran’s residence for some years up to May, 2024.
Gardaí told the outlet that the current tenants at the property are not connected to the case or are believed to be involved with Kyran’s disappearance in any way. In October, Irish police said they were launching a murder investigation into the case after they were unable to find evidence that the boy was alive.
Kyran’s case raised further questions about services that had dealt with his family. The Journal reported Minister for Children Roderic O’Gorman said that month that there were “very clearly failings” in the case and had been the reason why he met with the Independent National Review Panel to investigate the case.
A report into the situation had been received by O’Gorman’s department last month but it has not been released to the public due to the ongoing investigation. Irish police continue to appeal to any person with any information, on the disappearance and murder of Kyran Durning, no matter how insignificant it may seem, to contact the Garda Investigation Team at Drogheda Garda Station on (+353) 041 987 4200, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or speak with any member of An Garda Síochána.
