Lakeland’s heated clothes airer cut my laundry drying time by two thirds and it’s now £40 off

Laundry that used to take three days to dry is now ready to be put away in less than 24 hours thanks to this heated clothes airer from Lakeland – and it’s now on sale with £40 off

No matter how much you love cosy dark evenings and crisp, fallen leaves, one thing we can all agree on is that autumn and winter are the worst time of year for doing your washing. Things that would line dry in an afternoon during the summer are suddenly draped over every radiator in my house for days at a time, and the clothes airer has become a permanent fixture in my bedroom.

The cold weather and my refusal to have my heating switched on indefinitely means that it can take up to three or four days for washing to dry, especially bigger, heavier items like bedding and jeans. So I decided this year was finally the time to invest in a heated clothes airer, and now that Lakeland’s Dry:Soon 3-Tier Heated Airer is on sale, that’s the one I went for.

The clothes airer is usually priced at £244.98 if you buy it as a bundle with a cover, but currently it’s got £40, bringing it down to £204.98. Whilst this is admittedly a splurge, the usefulness has already made it worth its weight in gold in my opinion.

However if you want something a little more budget-friendly, Dunelm has slashed 20% off the Black and Decker 3 Tier Heated Airer, making it £80 down from £100. You can also head to Argos and get the Minky Sure Dri Heat Pod Pro Drying System for £60.

However the biggest draw of the Lakeland Dry:Soon 3-Tier Heated Airer is that it’s super roomy, and easily fits two to three loads of washing on it at once. This includes bulkier items like bed sheets and towels. My usual regular clothes airer fits one load, and takes around three days for everything to fully dry.

So by the time one load has dried it’s already time to do another, and the cycle continues. That means during autumn and winter my clothes airer is permanently set up in my bedroom, and as my flat isn’t particularly big, it becomes a huge nuisance and takes up valuable space.

So when I popped two full loads of washing on this and found it dry the very next day, I was genuinely thrilled. The Dry:Soon 3-Tier Heated Airer could then be put away for almost a whole week until the next lot of washing was ready to be done.

You can leave the airer switched on for up to 24 hours in one go, then it’s recommended that you switch it off and let it cool down for around two hours at least before switching it on again. I opted to turn it off overnight just to alleviate any anxiety about it during the first use, however it’s super cheap to run, costing around 9p an hour, so you can absolutely leave it on for longer.

I also love that it gives you space to lay more delicate items, like knitwear, flat so they don’t become stretched or warped during drying. Plus, the Dry:Soon 3-Tier Heated Airer gives off a low level of heat which keeps the room that it’s in nice and toasty too – a win-win without having to turn on your heating.

Another great part of the Dry:Soon 3-Tier Heated Airer’s design is that you can choose to just have one side opened up at a time, which is great for smaller loads or if you don’t have tonnes of room to set it up. I will say its height makes it a little trickier to store away, which can be challenging if you don’t have a lot of storage. However the cover doubles as a storage bag for it, which helps you keep everything neatly together.

All in all, this is one of those grown up investments that may seem dull, but is actually a game changer. My flat’s tidier (and warmer), my clothes dry much more quickly, and it’s super simple and easy to use – everyone’s a winner.
