Laughing thug beat elderly woman and ‘left her for dead’ covered in blood

By staff24 October 2025No Comments4 Mins Read

Jason Dyer, 54, brutally beat up a 71-year-old woman at her home in Nottinghamshire, and laughed after leaving her with fractures to her face and ribs, a court heard

A 71-year-old woman was laughed at by a thug after he “beat her black and blue” and she thought she would be “left for dead”.

Jason Dyer brutally attacked the woman, who saw him a a stepson, leaving her with fractures to her face and ribs and Nottingham Crown Court heard how he “did not stop laughing” as she sat in her armchair covered in blood following his horrific attack. The heavily-convicted 54-year-old was then found sitting “calmly” on her sofa when the police arrived saying “yeah I did it” when asked if he was responsible for her dreadful facial injuries.

Handing Dyer a rarely-bestowed life sentence, Judge Michael Auty KC said: “She was no match for you. You jumped up, punched her, sat back down and repeated it again and again. You are the son of a former partner and she referred to you as a stepson and she thought she was going to be left for dead.

“She says she could not bear to look at her face in the mirror after you attacked her. She says she does not know how she managed to survive. She is now constantly terrified of her own shadow.”

In a victim impact statement, the woman told how despite now feeling “a nervous wreck” she “will not let this attack get her down”.

Dawn Pritchard, prosecuting, said the attack took place at the victim’s Nottinghamshire address at lunchtime on October 18, last year. She said the defendant, who lives alone, had let Dyer in and he immediately sat down. Poured himself a vodka then poured her one and demanded she drink it.

The prosecutor said: “He said he had a voice in his head telling him he had to kill her and then jumped up and attacked her repeatedly with his fists. There was blood everywhere, she took her nightie off and put her pyjamas on as there was so much blood. She said he didn’t stop laughing, he punched her five or six times in the head. She said he would jump up and punch her, sit down and do it again.”

Miss Pritchard said the daughter of the victim telephoned and was surprised there was no answer and when her mother did finally pick up the phone, in whispered tones, she said “he’s hit me”.

She said the daughter replied “he had better not be there when I arrive” and called the woman’s carer and the emergency services. The prosecutor said: “The carer arrived and saw there was blood everywhere and that the defendant had blood on his hands. The victim was sitting in her chair covered in blood with swollen eyes, a swollen jaw and with an injured arm. She questioned the defendant who said ‘yeah, I did it’.”

The pensioner had suffered fractures to her face, eye socket, nose, had severe swelling to her face and had three broken ribs as a result of the attack and spent three weeks recovering in hospital. Dyer, of no fixed address and who has 39 convictions for 106 offences, pleaded guilty to wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

Judge Auty said: “You have one of the most chilling and disturbing pre-sentence reports I think I have ever read. It says ‘Mr Dyer presents a very high risk of making vengeful threats and causing harm to others’. Your release will now be governed by the Parole Board who will only release you if it is safe to do so.”
