A three-year-old girl has tragically been found dead at a home in Leeds by West Yorkshire Police with a woman, who was rushed to hospital, now arrested on suspicion of murder
A woman has been arrested over the murder of a three-year-old girl at a house in what police are calling a “tragic incident”.
After receiving a report just after 11am on Wednesday morning, West Yorkshire Police went to a home on Austhorpe Court, in Leeds, West Yorkshire, and discovered the body of a three-year-old girl. A woman at the address was taken to hospital for urgent medical attention, and is now in a stable condition, police said. She has since been arrested on suspicion of murder. Police say they are treating the death as an ‘isolated’ case and they are not looking for anyone else in connection to what happened.
West Yorkshire Police’s detective chief inspector Stacey Atkinson asked for anyone with information to come forward.
“Sadly when emergency services attended at an address on Austhorpe Court, Leeds, yesterday the body of a 3-year-old girl was found inside,” she said.
“A woman at the address was taken to hospital for urgent medical attention and remains there today in a stable condition. She has been arrested on suspicion of murder.
“We are treating this as an isolated incident and are not seeking anyone else in connection with it. I understand that such a tragic incident as this will cause shockwaves in the local community and that there will be speculation about what has happened.
“I would ask people to please let us investigate and if you do have any information that you think could assist our enquiries to get in contact with the investigation team.”
Locals have spoken about their shock and grief in what they describe as a quiet neighbourhood. Drazen Priganica, who has lived in the area for seven years and works for a mental health charity, told YorkshireLive: “It’s a terrible thing. You can’t tell what’s happened, [but] it will all come out.
“Then I can think more about why it happened. My heart goes out to the little girl and the family. Jesus, a little girl. Three years old. It’s no age.” Steve, who has lived in the area for 20 years, said: “Obviously, it’s shocking. I don’t know what to say, really. Nothing happens here, it’s very quiet.”
While a carer, who lives in the area and didn’t want to be named, called it “shocking” and added: “It’s a sad story… three years old.” Anyone with information is asked to contact West Yorkshire Police quoting crime reference 13250433711.
