Police have revealed details about a collision that left four people injured after a report of a fight in the same location on Saturday morning in Leicester – a 31-year-old man has been arrested
Leicester: Police at scene after vehicle reported to have hit multiple pedestrians
Police have launched an investigation following a report that a car collided with several pedestrians, leaving four people injured in the early hours of Saturday morning. It followed a report of a fight in the same location, police said.
A 31-year-old man was arrested after the collision in Leicester city centre. Police were called to De Montfort Street at 12.34am early this morning and four people were rushed to hospital by emergency services. Three were left with serious injuries and one person sustained minor injuries – although all four remain in hospital. Police have now shared details from their initial investigation, revealing it is understood that the suspect and four pedestrians were at the same event before the collision.
The injured pedestrians were two men and two women, but their identities have not been shared. Police said the incident was reported to have happened after a fight at the same location. Police have not shared what the event was or where it had been taking place.
Leicestershire Police confirmed a 31-year-old man from Leicester was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and causing serious injury by dangerous driving following the collision.
The man remains in police custody and is being questioned by detectives. Detective Inspector Jenny Tattersall said the force was working to determine the details of what happened early this morning.
The Detective Inspector said: “We understand the serious concern there will be about this incident.”
Pictures and videos from today show a large police presence on De Montfort Street. The road has been taped off and closed to traffic while cops continue to investigate what happened in the early hours of the morning.
The Detective Inspector added: “A large cordon is in place in the area of De Montfort Street and will remain while enquiries, including forensic investigations, are carried out.
“We do ask that people do not speculate about this incident, including on social media, in order to allow a thorough investigation to take place. We have officers at the scene carrying out enquiries and providing reassurance. Please do speak with them regarding any information you may have or any concerns you may have.”
Police have called on the public members of the public with information to stop forward and contact police on 101, quoting incident number 27 of 31 May.
