Leicester woman, 86, arrested as ‘human remains buried at home’

By staff22 July 2025No Comments3 Mins Read

Leicestershire Police have arrested an 86-year-old woman following a report of human remains being buried at a property in the 1970s. The investigation is ongoing

A woman aged 86 has been arrested following a report that human remains may be buried at a home in Leicester.

Officers have been investigating two separate locations in the city after a third party alleged that human remains may have been buried at an address in Wolverton Road in the 1970s. Leicestershire Police said they are carrying out “thorough searches” of two properties – one in Dumbleton Avenue and the other in nearby Wolverton Road, both off Narborough Road.

The force said a warrant was executed at the address in Wolverton Road on July 19 and a scene preservation remains in place. On the same day, a search warrant was also executed at a property in Dumbleton Avenue.

The woman was arrested on Saturday in connection with the investigation, police said. She has since been released on police bail while the investigation continues, they added.

In an appeal this afternoon, the force said officers remain at both addresses to carry out searches. Detective Inspector Neil Holden, from the East Midlands Special Operations Unit’s major crime team, is leading the investigation.

He said: “This is a very complex and sensitive investigation which will take time. I appreciate the news of this investigation will be concerning to the local community and I must emphasise the investigation is in its very early stages as we continue to establish the full circumstances of the report.

“Given the serious nature of the allegations which have been made, a scene preservation has been put in place at both addresses to allow officers to carry out a thorough search and secure any evidence that could help our enquiries. Officers from the West Leicester Neighbourhood Policing Area remain in the area to provide further reassurance to the local community.

“Please speak to us if you have any information that you think could help us. I would also ask our communities to avoid the sharing of misinformation and speculation. Please only share information which is known to be true. We will provide further updates to you as and when we are able to and when it is appropriate to do so.”

Anyone with information on the incident has been asked to get report it online at www.leics.police.uk quoting reference 25*422416 or by visiting the police’s Public Portal at https://mipp.police.uk/operation/33EM25I61-PO1. Alternatively you can call 101.
