Scottish music sensation Lewis Capaldi helped completely change the life of one of his fans just hours before he took to the stage in London for a sold-out concert
Lewis Capaldi’s incredible life-changing act of kindness left one fan in tears. The Forget Me singer quietly donated a huge amount of money to a fan’s fundraising campaign after meeting her outside London’s O2 Arena on Wednesday evening.
The Forget Me singer quietly donated a huge amount of money to a fan’s fundraising campaign after meeting her outside the venue. Lewis, 28, was arriving at the venue ahead of his sold-out show when he met Maddi Thurgood, a fan who has an ultra-rare motor neurone disease called SPG15.
Maddi, who uses a wheelchair, was waiting to meet Lewis with her mother and sister, Carina. The singer stopped to take a photo with her, after which Carina handed him a leaflet about their fundraising campaign to raise money to support Maddi’s care and medical research.
Moments later, Lewis quietly donated £5000 to their GoFundMe Campaign. Maddi told the Daily Star: “Today was truly one of the best days of my life. I was at the O2 with my mum and sister when, out of nowhere, Lewis Capaldi stopped to speak to me.
“He came over while I was in my wheelchair, smiled, and I asked for a photo with him. My mum told him she had been trying to contact him about our charity football match, but he explained he was working that weekend.
“My mum explained a little about my condition and why we’re fundraising. He asked my name, introduced himself with a smile and said, ‘I’m Lewis, pleased to meet you.’ And within 10 minutes, he had gone on Instagram and donated to our cause.
“We all cried on the spot. It was one of the most beautiful moments I’ve ever experienced.”

In a heartfelt message to her hero, she added: “Lewis, you are not just my favourite artist, you are my hero. Thank you for being so kind, for making time for me, and for giving me a memory I will never forget.”
The charity football event that Maddi’s mother told Lewis Capaldi about will take place on 27 September. It is set to feature TV personality Dan Osbourne, Call The Midwife’s Cliff Parisi, and EastEnders’ Alfie Deegan, among others. It will take place at Drewitt-Barlow Stadium in Maldon, and donations will be taken at the gate.
Lewis is has released some new music this year. This is the first time he has done so since 2023. In June of that year, the singer started a hiatus, citing the need to focus on his mental and physical health.
A few months earlier, he had released a documentary on Netflix called How I’m Feeling Now, where he spoke about how his diagnosis with Tourette’s Syndrome had affected him, along with anxiety and pressure to perform.
Also in June 2023, Lewis’ set at Glastonbury was affected by an episode of his Tourette’s and the crowd helped him finish his performance. Lewis did not return to the festival or performing for 2024 but this year, made a surprise appearance at Glastonbury, where he performed his new single Survive, which became his sixth UK number one.
