Liam Payne’s dad Geoff reportedly tried to enter a psychiatric treatment centre months before his death, but the One Direction star is said to have refused
The dad of One Direction star Liam Payne is said to have tried to get his son to enter a psychiatric treatment centre months before his death.
The singer died aged 31 after falling from a balcony in a Buenos Aires hotel last October. Liam died from multiple injuries as well as internal and external bleeding caused by the fall, a post-mortem examination said. His body was found in the hotel’s internal courtyard.
After his death, police discovered substances in his hotel room, as well as damaged objects and furniture, according to the public prosecutor’s office.
Now it’s been claimed Geoff tried to do all he could to safe guard his son months before his fatal fall. It is said to have came after the former X Factor star was hospitalised in a ‘serious condition’ in April 2024.
According to Rolling Stone, Liam had been admitted to rehab in the same month. However, he is said to have left before he was able to complete the program. Geoff reportedly tried to intervene in the weeks that followed. However, it’s claimed the star refused his father’s wishes to go into the treatment centre.
It’s also claimed the singer’s team had ‘balked’ at the idea of him touring South America. They are said to have thought he was ‘in no shape to be on the road’. Rolling Stone goes on to allege Liam missed several key promo opportunities for his single. This is thought to have included interviews, performances and events.
A month before his death, Universal Republic, allegedly dropped him over these factors and concerns including for the star’s health. A source told the publication: “It was decided by the label, given these factors combined with concerns for his health, to terminate the working relationship rather than further release music.”
The news comes after Liam’s partner Kate Cassidy broke down in a message to her followers on TikTok. In a recent interview, Kate admitted she still rings her late partner’s phone despite him no longer being there. She also confessed she can no longer listen to his songs.
And in an emotional message, she said on the social media platform: “I wanted to come on here and start by saying thank you so much for all the kind words and support I’ve received over these past couple of days after going on this interview.
“It was not something I undertook lightly and even the past couple of months, thank you so much for all the love and support. I can’t even believe I’m sitting here filming this video right now, speaking about this like I’ll never really understand.”
She continued: “This was a platform I used to use for fun with Liam and do all those silly little dances and do our little videos together. I’m so glad I have those memories and that I was able to share that side of our relationship with the world. I wish Liam was here to be able to see the amount of love and support he’s received worldwide because it’s what he deserves and what he would have wanted.”
Kate added: “As I navigate this next chapter of my life without Liam, it’s just, I don’t even know what to say. It’s really kind seeing the support and love that has been sent my way. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”
