Liam Payne is seen singing in the video for Do No Wrong in a candid clip shared by Sam Pounds, with whom the One Direction star composed the track earlier this year
Liam Payne’s posthumous single with Sam Pounds has had its release date postponed, it has emerged.
Sam, a Grammy-winning producer, worked with the One Direction Star on Do No Wrong, which was set to be released on Friday November 1. When Liam, 31, died earlier this month in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Sam desctibed his pal as a “happy, funny and talented brother, father and friend”.
Now, the producer has made the decision to postpone the track, stating “we are all still mourning”. Writing on X, he said: “Today I’m deciding to hold ‘Do No Wrong’ and leave those liberties up to all family members. I want all proceeds go to a charity of their choosing (or however they desire).
“Even though we all love the song it’s not the time yet. We are all still mourning the passing of Liam and I want the family to morn in peace and in prayer. We will all wait. With love Sam Pounds.”
A candid video of Liam, who was in One Direction, singing the unreleased track was posted online earlier this week. Sam’s Instagram following liked and shared the footage, paying their respects to Liam.
And Sam has since been praised for deciding to delay the release of Do No Wrong, in which dad-of-one Liam sings: “Nothing come between us but just space and time. As I fall, fall further for you, I can make a lifetime out of just one night. Like there’s nothing just us two.”
Several fans rushed to the comments to thank Sam, from North Carolina, for holding on the release of the single and respecting his family. One Instagram user said: “Thank you for respecting the family’s wishes; It’s the right thing to do ! Thank you; Thank you, for giving everyone time to mourn and for leaving the decision up to Liam‘s family.”
Another said: “Thank you Sam… yes, we’re still crying but we’re always here ready for Liam’s music when the time is right; Thank you for respecting the family’s decision. Hopefully it will see the day of light in better timing.”
Liam had collaborated with Sam on the track in the months before his death, which continues to be investigated in Buenos Aires. Broadcast journalist Paula Varela had said: “There is footage that is not being released to the media with the balcony scene where you see that Liam faints and tragically because of where he is, falls from that balcony. If he had been beside his bed he would have fallen on his bed.”
The footage is part of a horrific sequence of CCTV, it is understood. Ms Varela, 45, says it indicates Liam did not jump deliberately from the balcony. She told Socios del Espectaculo, a show broadcast on Buenos Aires-based TV station Canal 13: “It’s not that he jumped deliberately. This footage is in the official case files. There’s a lad who’s being investigated, he was working nights at the hotel. He struck up an excellent relationship with Liam. He disobeyed an order from the hotel management. What was the order he disobeyed? It was not to take anything into Liam’s room.”
