Lidl has shared the best time to go shopping this bank holiday weekend as opening hours are set to be shaken up.
The supermarket chain has confirmed that it will be open across the late May bank holiday weekend, but opening hours will be slightly adjusted for the bank holiday itself next week. This year, the late May bank holiday falls on Monday, May 26.
On Friday, May 23 Lidl will be opening at 7am and closing at 10pm. The supermarket chain said it expected Friday to be the “busiest” day of the bank holiday weekend. For those wanting a quieter shop, Lidl recommends shoppers come between 8am and 10am or after 6pm.
Saturday opening hours will remain the same, with supermarkets opening at 7am and closing for 10pm. On Sunday, like other supermarket chains – Lidl only opens for six hours due to Sunday trading laws.

This means stores will open between 10am and 11am and closing between 4pm and 5pm. Lidl stores often open half an hour earlier than this to allow shoppers to browse. On the bank holiday itself, the majority of Lidl stores will be opening as normal at 7am. However, some will be opening a little later at 8am. Stores appear to be closing at 10pm.
Lidl says that opening hours will vary across its store estate, for example, if your local supermarket is in a shopping centre then it could close earlier. You can find your nearest Lidl with the supermarket’s locator tool here.
Last month, Lidl revelaed a “wish list2 of hundreds of places where it wants to open new stores. It also revealed that it was on track to open 40 new supermarkets this financial year. Lidl said it was investing half a billion pounds into its expansion plan.
Lidl published its 2025 site requirements brochure, outlining hundreds of potential locations for new stores – including high streets, retail parks, and mixed-use town centre sites. The updated list features locations across England, Scotland and Wales. You can see all the locations in the Lidl brochure which has been published online.
This follows Lidl’s opening of four brand new locations in Canning Town, Preston, Walsall, and Wombourne in February. During the same month, Lidl also opened five upgraded stores in Blantyre, Cwmbran, Oldbrook, Wells, and West Ealing. The new stores are part of Lidl’s plan to have 1,100 UK stores by the end of 2025.
