Former PGA Tour star Marc Leishman has not played in a major championship since 2022, having not featured on the flagship stage since making the move to LIV Golf
Marc Leishman has revealed he has no plans to go ‘chasing’ world ranking points, and is seemingly content with not being able to play in golf’s four major championships.
Leishman became one of the key names to the leave the PGA Tour and join LIV Golf in 2022. Since then, the Australian has seen his name tumble down the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR), with the breakaway league still yet to acquire OWGR points for their events.
The former world No. 12 had been a mainstay at the golf’s four majors, having played in every flagship event between 2016 and 2022, the same summer he opted to make the LIV switch.
His fall down the ranking list however has seen him not feature in a major since, but this does not seem to be a problem for Leishman. “I’m not going to go chasing world ranking points,” he said per Fox Sports this week having returned to his home country for the Australian PGA Championship.
“I’m very happy playing the amount of events that I’m playing. Having the time to prepare for tournaments, the time with the kids and enjoying my golf more. I’m not saying I don’t want to be in them (the majors). I do want to be in them, but I’m not going to go chasing them and having that as the only thing I’m worried about.
“I’m really enjoying my golf so much now, more than I ever have, and I want to continue to do that, and that lends itself to the best golf. If I can play the majors, great. If I don’t, I’m still very happy.” The Aussie star will get the chance to earn ranking points this week at the event in Australia.

The tournament co-sanctioned by the DP World Tour and PGA Tour of Australasia offered an invite to Leishman, who is also competing alongside his LIV teammate, Cam Smith. And the two Ripper GC teammates are tied alongside each other on the leaderboard.
Both find themselves tied for sixth after shooting a four-under-par 67 in the opening round. Leishman’s opening 18 holes included six birdies, in an impressive start to the week. Since then though, the Aussie and his fellow competitors have been unable to return for round two.
Adverse weather conditions saw play suspended on Friday with the course in Brisbane flooded by heavy rain. The delay means the tournament has now been reduced to 54 holes with play set to restart on Saturday at 6 a.m. local time. Leishmann and Smith will be hoping to chase down Cristobal Del Solar who leads the way at six-under with 36 holes left to play.
