Liverpool see their fixture against Aston Villa rearranged after reaching the final of the Carabao Cup and the clash already has a date and time in February for the Reds to go to Villa Park
Liverpool have secured their place in the Carabao Cup final after thrashing Tottenham 4-0 at Anfield.
The Reds move a step further to retaining the last trophy they won under Jurgen Klopp and next face Newcastle United in the competition. Arne Slot’s side produced an emphatic performance against a limp Spurs team and now, in addition to a place at Wembley are rewarded with some fixture congestion.
Liverpool will make the trip to London to face the Magpies on March 16 and as a result both teams will see matches in the Premier League rearranged. The Anfield side were due to play Aston Villa at 12.30pm on March 15, while Eddie Howe’s side were scheduled against Crystal Palace on the same day.
Slot now knows his side will face Villa away on Wednesday February 19, with both sides having previously earned a rest due to qualifying directly for last 16 in the Champions League. It sees the Reds lose their advantage ahead of facing Manchester City in the Premier League on February 23.
City wil have their own stiff test heading into the meeting however. Pep Guardiola will face Real Madrid for a place in the last-16 in the Champions League, also on February 19.
The Premier League champions will make the trip to the Bernabeu for the second leg of their tie. The first leg takes place at the Etihad Stadium just over a week before.
Nevertheless, Liverpool face a busy February after their postponed clash against Everton was scheduled for next week. Slot however, is pleased to reach his first final since taking charge of the club.
“I think we had some big nights here already but yeah to reach a final should also be special, and that is what it is,” he said. “So yeah in that perspective it has been the most special evening.
“In Holland we only have one cup competition and that final is played at the end of the season so it is new experience but a nice one to have. It is a special stadium for English people but also for Dutch people because we know the history of the stadium and final as well.
“Very pleased to go there but we know we will face a very tough opponent. They are a very good team but they will face a very good team as well.”
“There is only one downside to reaching the final,” he added. “It is playing Villa in midweek but being successful creates even more games. It is a positive and players get stronger in my opinion by playing games.”
