Liverpool boss Arne Slot has enjoyed a fine start to life in the Premier League and he continued his fantastic run of form by overseeing a big win over Aston Villa on Saturday
It’s been another positive week for Liverpool and Arne Slot, who head into the international break top of the table.
The Reds have opened up a five point lead over the reigning Premier League champions Manchester City, while the team touted as their primary title challengers, Arsenal, are now nine points off the pace.
Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah were on target in Saturday night’s 2-0 win over Aston Villa, which came hot on the heels of City’s shock defeat at the hands of Brighton.
Slot and co now get some respite with the international break ahead of a huge run of fixtures which includes a maiden meeting with Pep Guardiola. Here, Mirror Football rounds up all the latest news from Anfield…
Slot drops Salah hint
Arne Slot has made it crystal clear that he would like to keep Mohamed Salah around after lauding the Egyptian superstar this weekend.
Salah has been in imperious form this season and made it into double figures for both goals and assists this term with his contributions in the win over Aston Villa.
The 32-year-old is out of contract in the summer and there has been little in the way of updates on the situation. But Slot could hardly have made his admiration for the forward any clearer in the aftermath of Saturday night’s big win.

Alexander-Arnold injury update
Join the debate! Do you think Liverpool will win the title this season? Let us know here.
Trent Alexander-Arnold is poised to withdraw from England duty after suffering an injury scare over the weekend.
The Reds vice-captain was withdrawn after 25 minutes with what appeared to be a hamstring issue and was replaced by Conor Bradley. It’s now been confirmed he will take no part in England’s upcoming Nations League fixtures.
Liverpool are, however, hopeful that Alexander-Arnold has avoided doing any serious damage and he could yet be available for their next Premier League match, which is against Southampton.
Gerrard tipped to return to old job
Steven Gerrard has been tipped to return to Rangers as scrutiny continues to grow on the Al-Ettifaq boss.
The Liverpool legend has overseen an awful run of form and is set for crisis talks during the international break. Al-Ettifaq’s poor form comes at a time where Gerrard’s old club, Rangers, are also struggling under Philippe Clement.
And his former Anfield team-mate Danny Murphy reckons that Gerrard returning to Ibrox cannot be ruled out.
