Arne Slot is set to lead Liverpool to the Premier League title in his first season but isn’t ready to consider himself a Scouser as fans clamour to land tickets for the title party at Anfield
Liverpool’s champagne is on ice ahead of Sunday afternoon. Avoid defeat and the Reds will be crowned champions at Anfield in front of their adoring fans.
Tottenham have struggled all season and would need to produce a massive upset if they were to delay the title party. Liverpool’s focus is solely on the Premier League and they can cap a stellar first year under Arne Slot by being anointed for just the second time in the Premier League era.
The Reds can also play knowing that the noise surrounding Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk has died following their decisions to sign new contracts. Trent Alexander-Arnold though could be about to celebrate his second title, but with his time at Anfield coming to an end.
As the Reds look to draw level with Manchester United on 20 top flight triumphs we take a look at the news lines coming from the red half of Merseyside.
Slot keeping lid on achievement
Arne Slot insists it will take him years before he feels as though he can be considered a Scouser despite closing in on a title in his first year. He can emulate Jose Mourinho, Carlo Ancelotti, Manuel Pellegrini and Antonio Conte by lifting the title in his debut season
Slot though maintains he will take him some time to feel the same way as long-serving legends like Bill Shankly, Bob Paisley, Kenny Dalglish and Jurgen Klopp.

He said: “When you start to work here, then quite quickly you get a certain feeling. But it’s not true that I have the same feeling as someone who has been here forever. If I could feel that in just 10 months, it would be a bit weird when someone has stood on the Kop for many years and I’ve only stood on the touchline for one season.
“The good thing about the people here is that they welcome you from the start and you feel part of them. But to say I am a Scouser now would be too much. Ask me after 10 years.”
Ticket prices skyrocket
Liverpool fans face the prospect of paying £675 for a ticket if they want to be at Anfield for Sunday’s potential Premier League title party. The Reds only need to avoid defeat against Tottenham to be crowned champions.
The Kop was empty when Liverpool won the Premier League for the one and only time due to Covid restrictions. It means their success this term will be the first time the players will be able to party with their fanbase.
Anyone who wants to be present though needs to shell out several hundred. Despite a desire to clamp down on touts and resale sites, tickets are being put on the market for just shy of £700, according to the Daily Mail, and that was the cheapest ticket on the market.
Van Dijk shows class
Virgil van Dijk recently signed a new two-year contract but that news was kept in-house because he didn’t want the news to take away from the emotions of the club remembering the 36th anniversary of the Hillsborough tragedy.
A few days earlier, the 33-year-old had scored the late winner against West Ham before meeting up with Sean Cox, the Liverpool fan from Ireland who was left with life-changing injuries after being attacked by Roma hooligans in 2018.
Van Dijk said: “Sean was disabled in an attack around a game against AS Roma a few years back. Since then, he and his family are often invited by the club. I have met him many times and I know his family a bit by now. It’s little things perhaps – but that is typical of Liverpool. This club means so incredibly much to people.”
