Liverpool news: Manchester United claim made as Arne Slot sent clear message

By staff30 April 2025No Comments4 Mins Read

Liverpool won the Premier League with four games to spare and saw stunning scenes of celebration on Sunday but one squad member has already been told he has no future at Anfield

Liverpool were officially confirmed as Premier League champions on Sunday after they beat Tottenham Hotspur 5-1 at Anfield, with Arne Slot becoming the fifth manager to win the title in his first campaign after Jose Mourinho, Carlo Ancelotti, Manuel Pellegrini and Antonio Conte.

Liverpool still have four games left to play this season and are expected to lift the trophy on the final day when they host Crystal Palace on May 25. Now that the title is wrapped up, Liverpool can now turn their attention to next season.

The Reds are set for a busy transfer window, with club captain Virgil van Dijk admitting that it will be a “big summer”. Van Dijk said: “I think Liverpool should be able to challenge for titles in the upcoming years.

“Whatever happens in the summer in terms of players going out, players coming in, I think it should be a big summer. I think they’re planning to make it a big summer so we all have to trust the board as a Liverpool connected fan to do the right job.”

With all that in mind, Mirror Football takes a look at the latest news and rumours surrounding the champions…

Slot told he’s ‘opened the gate’

Ruud Gullit believes Slot’s success at Liverpool will “open the gate” for more Dutch coaches in the Premier League.

“He did well, and he got a lot of players playing much better than they did before,” Gullit said at the 2025 Laureus World Sports Awards. “He’s a good coach and I’m very happy, because he opens the gate for other coaches from Holland.

“Everybody’s always looking at Portugal, Germany and Spain. Now, they’re looking at what’s happening in Holland, too.”

Ferdinand’s bold claim

Rio Ferdinand believes Manchester United are the “biggest club” in England, despite the fact Liverpool have now equalled their record for 20 league title victories.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Ferdinand claimed: “They’re [Liverpool] the most successful club in the land, but they’re not the biggest club. “It’s a fact. You go anywhere in the world, there are more Man United fans than there are Liverpool fans. But that will change if they remain successful and Man United don’t.

“There will be a swing of new fans who adopt successful teams. If Liverpool become that over the next 10 years then they have a chance to balance that up, in terms of the biggest club in the world right now. But right now it’s a landslide win for Man United in terms of being the biggest in the world.”

Mac Allister hailed

Alexis Mac Allister was named player of the match in the win over Tottenham and Troy Deeney believes the midfielder should now be worth £400million because of his performances for Liverpool.

Mac Allister joined Liverpool from Brighton for a fee of around £35m two years ago and Deeney believes his value has skyrocketed since then. “When you look at the midfield, his [Slot’s] whole season has been encapsulated by that midfield three,” Deeney told talkSPORT.

“Ryan Gravenberch has been fantastic, he’s one of two players to play every game, and then there’s Alexis Mac Allister, who for £40m now looks like he could be worth £400m.”
