Liverpool are building towards Saturday’s trip to rock-bottom Wolves as Arne Slot looks to continue his excellent start to life as manager.

Slot has also now outlined his plan for summer signing Federico Chiesa, who played 60 minutes as the Reds hammered West Ham in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday. Chiesa had played for just 19 minutes before that clash, in which he notched an assist.

And Slot is sticking to his plan to remain patient with the Italian, who was the star signing of the summer for Liverpool. Elsewhere, the Reds have been warned that Trent Alexander-Arnold’s future is approaching a critical point.

Liverpool warned over Alexander-Arnold

Liverpool have been warned the blame will be laid squarely at their door if Trent Alexander-Arnold leaves for Real Madrid. The right-back is out of contract at the end of the season, with Madrid his leading suitor.

“I think it’ll be absolutely fine,” Former Liverpool star Glen Johnson told Betfred. “Trent’s a local lad and he wouldn’t be leaving on bad terms. He’s been with the club for 20 years and he’s been professional, never fallen out with the club and has won everything with them.

“The reality is, if the club has offered him a deal that isn’t worth his while, then that’s their fault and I believe the fans will understand that. All good things come to an end and I’m sure he’ll leave on good terms.”

Jota backs Slot move

Reds forward Diogo Jota has backed Arne Slot’s decision to rotate his squad to help the team battle on four fronts this season. Slot picked a much-changed squad for the win over West Ham, which Jota has insisted is the right move.

“We know the staff work on managing the players and (their) load as we know a lot of things are coming and we want to be in the best place possible,” Jota told LFCTV. “Some players didn’t play much yet so we know these games can be tricky but we showed we are all prepared.

“Physicality-wise we need to get those minutes and we are ready for a big season with hopefully a lot of games. We wanted to progress in the cup; we won it last year and we wanted to do it again.”

Slot discloses Chiesa plan

Arne Slot has insisted he will remain patient with Federico Chiesa as the Italian star builds his fitness. Chiesa had played just 19 minutes before featuring for an hour against West Ham and Slot has warned it will take time for the attacker to get up to full speed.

“It was pleasing to see that he could already play 60 minutes, because he hasn’t played a lot,” Slot said. “He has hardly played any minutes in the last three or four months. So for him it is important to get more match minutes, and that’s what he got today.

“He worked really hard. I think it’s normal that he’s not already in the top of his ability. He has to get used to the club, he has to get used to his team-mates, he has to adjust to the playing style. It was very good to see how match-fit he already is, so that we can use him if we need him.”
