Liverpool star confirms plan to leave during on-field Premier League title celebrations

Liverpool lifted the top-flight title for the 20th time on Sunday afternoon, but Arne Slot is still expected to have a busy summer with a number of arrivals and departures

Caoimhin Kelleher has confirmed he will seek to depart Liverpool for pastures new this summer. The 26-year-old goalkeeper earned a Premier League winners’ medal on Sunday as the Reds finally got their hands on the title following a 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace.

The Republic of Ireland international featured 10 times in the top-flight this season after Alisson sustained a hamstring injury earlier in the campaign.

However, Kelleher has now revealed during an interview with Optus Sport that he definitely plans to try something new next season. He said, when asked if he’s looking to play regular football elsewhere: “Yeah, yeah definitely.

“I’ve said it before as well, I feel like I’m good enough to be a No.1 and I feel like I’m good enough to play week in, week out and that’s what I’m looking to do. This season I was lucky enough to play a lot of games but it’s definitely something I’m looking at.”

Liverpool have already secured the signing of Kelleher’s replacement. Valencia goalkeeper and Georgia international Giorgi Mamardashvili is set to arrive at Anfield this summer after a deal worth £25million plus £4m in add-ons was agreed last August.

And Mamardashvili recently revealed he plans to stay put on Merseyside next season even if he will remain second-choice to Alisson, who has previously attracted interest from the Saudi Pro League.

Mamardashvili said: “They are looking at me as the Liverpool goalkeeper for the next ten years. So my next step will be the same as it was in Valencia, that I go and prove myself and show what I can do.

“The main thing is patience, training, and hard work. Everything else will come. I’m not considering another loan. I will spend next season at Liverpool, I think it will be good and training with Alisson will help me grow and gain experience.”

Meanwhile, Liverpool’s Brazilian has revealed he’s “tired of partying” as the Reds have spent the past month celebrating their second Premier League triumph which was secured following a 5-1 demolition of Spurs in late April.

Alisson said: “To be honest I am a little bit tired of partying! Four weeks in a row celebrating after the game against Spurs.

“Of course, we knew we were champions, but today you can do it with the silverware on your chest. Today everything is full, everything is complete, we will celebrate a lot.

“We have a full house today to celebrate in front of our fans. They are a massive part of this club, I feel the main part of this club, everything we do, we don’t only do it for ourselves or for our families.

“Of course, we have individual ambitions, ambitions as a team, but every time we go on the pitch and work so hard, we do it for them as well. Nothing more fair than we could enjoy and celebrate in front of them. It makes everything more special.”
