Liverpool transfer news: Milos Kerkez key issue resolved amid Florian Wirtz delay

Florian Wirtz’s Liverpool medical may have been paused until Friday but the transfer for Milos Kerkez is set to proceed soon after Bournemouth agreed a deal for his replacement

Florian Wirtz is set to have his Liverpool medical on Friday with the delay put down to the £116m signing wanting to go on holiday first. Germany playmaker Wirtz will be a British record transfer once the deal is made official at the end of the week after the Reds agreed to stump up £100m with an additional £16m of add-ons.

Wirtz is poised to become Arne Slot’s third new addition this summer. Frimpong and Giorgi Mamardashvili have already completed moves, while Liverpool have helped fund some of their summer spending by selling second-choice goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher to Brentford and Trent Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid for £10m despite there only being a month remaining on his contract.

And once the Wirtz deal is announced the club are also set to seal the signing of Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth with the left-back expected to usurp Andrew Robertson as first choice.

Here are the transfer stories to keep an eye on from in and around Anfield.

Kerkez close

The Kerkez deal took a major step closer on Monday afternoon because Bournemouth agreed a deal to sign Adrien Truffert from Rennes for £14.3m – with the Frenchman brought in as the replacement for the soon to depart Hungary international.

And some reports now say that the signing of Kerkez could be wrapped up by the end of this week too as Slot’s squad is further strengthened ahead of their attempt to retain the Premier League title next season.

Nunez price

Liverpool are said to be willing to accept an offer in the region of €60million (£51m) to sell Darwin Nunez this summer – just months after they rejected a more lucrative proposal for the striker from Saudi Arabia.

Nunez, 25, is expected to leave Anfield after a disappointing campaign in front of goal for the newly minted Premier League champions. And there have already been discussions over a potential move away, according to reports elsewhere.

The Uruguay international is known to have suitors in the Middle East with Al-Nassr making a £60m bid for the frontman back in January, only to be rebuffed.

Ekitike too pricey

Wirtz is not the only Bundesliga star on Liverpool’s radar this summer – but a deal for Hugo Ekitike is likely to appear beyond their reach because Eintracht Frankfurt chief Markus Krosche is standing firm on holding out for £85m for the striker.

“If the price isn’t right, then he’ll just stay with us. We don’t have to sell Hugo,” Krosche told German media. Ekitike had also been of interest to Chelsea, who have already signed Liam Delap from Ipswich and made his debut in the FIFA Club World Cup last night.
