Liverpool currently sit top of the Premier League and the Champions League and they may look to bolster Arne Slot’s squad in the upcoming January transfer window
Liverpool have enjoyed an excellent start to life under new boss Arne Slot, but they could still be tempted to make some new signings in the January transfer window.
The Reds have made some big signings in January in recent years, including the £75million addition of Virgil van Dijk from Southampton. However, the Liverpool captain’s future is now up in the air with his contract due to expire at the end of the season.
Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold are in the same situation and it remains to be seen whether the trio will stay at Anfield. With all that in mind, Mirror Football takes a look at all of the latest rumours and news…
Liverpool eye Pedro
According to a report from Brazilian outlet UOL, Liverpool are interested in signing Brighton forward Joao Pedro.
The report states that Liverpool have been closely monitoring Pedro for ‘almost five years’ and they have made him ‘one of their priorities’ for next season. It is claimed he would be an ideal signing for Slot, but talks over a move are just ‘exploratory’ at the moment.
Manchester United are also said to hold long-term interest in Pedro, but the recent exits of Erik ten Hag and Dan Ashworth could change things. Pedro is under contract at Brighton until 2028 and the Seagulls will likely to demand a big fee for the 23-year-old.
Salah sent transfer warning
Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher believes Salah will sign a new deal because he has a lack of other options.
“I love Mo Salah, he’s one of the best players in the world, but the reason I say [I don’t think will have options’ is because of his age,” Carragher said on the Stick to Football podcast, brought to you by Sky Bet.
He added: “He’s not ready to go to Saudi [Arabia] – he can do that in three years’ time. Salah is that driven as a footballer to win the record of most goals – or whatever that may be for Liverpool.”
Klopp’s future
Former Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has no plans to return to management any time soon, his agent Marc Kosicke has revealed.
Klopp is set to start his role as Red Bull’s new Head of Global Football in the new year, but Kosicke has admitted there is a chance he could be tempted back to the dugout to take charge of Germany.
“Jurgen has no desire at all to be a coach at the moment,” Kosicke told the Abendblatt podcast, as quoted by BILD. “Life is dynamic. And if it were to come to that [the Germany job], that would certainly be another aspect that I wouldn’t turn down.”
