Liverpool transfer news: Reds close in on Marc Guehi deal as details of clause come to light

By staff29 June 2025No Comments4 Mins Read

Liverpool have been the Premier League’s big spenders this summer, with Florian Wirtz one of the stars to move to Anfield, but Arne Slot’s side are not done just yet

Liverpool have made a very busy start to the summer but Arne Slot’s side are far from done. They might have won the Premier League title last term, but now the time has come to build from a position of strength.

Florian Wirtz is the marquee summer signing, while Milos Kerkez and Jeremie Frimpong have also been brought on board. Giorgi Mamardashvili’s arrival was confirmed a full year ago, while we have also seen the Reds say goodbye to the likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Caoimhin Kelleher as well as adding backup keeper Freddie Woodman.

Next up is an additional centre-back. Jarell Quansah looks to be Leverkusen-bound, and Marc Guehi could be the man to replace him at Anfield.

Liverpool aren’t done selling players either, by the looks of it. Darwin Nunez is ready to leave after a difficult season on a personal level, though things aren’t entirely straightforward when it comes to the Uruguayan’s exit.

We’ve got updates for you on some of those pending ins and outs as Slot looks to freshen up his squad. Here are Mirror Football ‘s latest lines from the red half of Merseyside.

Liverpool close in on Guehi

Liverpool are closing in on their next transfer target, with Marc Guehi on the verge of a move from Crystal Palace. The Eagles are expected to accept around £40m for the star, who is in the final year of his deal, after wanting around £70m last summer.

The England intenational has been a key player for the Eagles since joining from Chelsea in 2021. He played his 150th game for Palace this season, and captained them to victory in the FA Cup final.

Guehi, 24, has also increased his importance to the senior England team. He won his 23rd cap in March, playing the full 90 minutes as England beat Latvia in a World Cup qualifier.

Chelsea to benefit from Reds deal

It’s not just Palace who will benefit financially from Guehi’s move. Former club Chelsea are understood to have a 20 percent sell-on clause, which would net them £8m if Guehi moves for the anticipated £40m.

Chelsea have already been busy this summer, signing the likes of Liam Delap and Dario Essugo. An extra windfall could go towards further signings after the Blues return from the Club World Cup.

One of the players being eyed by Enzo Maresca’s side is Jamie Gittens. Talks over a swoop for the Dortmund winger have continued despite Chelsea failing to get a deal done before the Club World Cup got underway.

Nunez set for waiting game

Darwin Nunez is ready to leave Liverpool but is likely to have to wait for an exit. This is because suitors Napoli are some way away from the Reds in their valuation of the Uruguayan.

Liverpool want £70m for Nunez, who joined in a big-money move from Benfica in 2022. Napoli believe something closer to £50m is fair for a player who struggled for minutes at Anfield last season.

Nunez started just eight league games for Liverpool last summer, with Luis Diaz often preferred in the number nine role. Napoli have money to spend after selling Khvicha Kvaratskhelia in January but aren’t budging on the fee just yet.
