Liverpool’s three-man striker shortlist as star made to wait for dream Anfield move

By staff1 July 2025No Comments4 Mins Read

Liverpool are keen on adding a new striker to their squad this summer with Darwin Nunez linked with a move away and have a number of forwards in mind to add to their lucrative spend

Liverpool have added Victor Osimhen to their striker shortlist with moves for Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike hitting the buffers. The Reds are keen to add a new forward to their squad this summer with Darwin Nunez’s future looking uncertain.

The Uruguayan has been linked with a move to Serie A giants Napoli. And should he leave, a replacement is right at the top of Liverpool ’s agenda.

Despite the Premier League champions’ huge outlay this summer, their PSR figures have been positive over the last few seasons, meaning that a move for a forward is not as prohibitive as first thought over the coming months. A number of strikers have already been identified as potential recruits.

Eintracht Frankfurt star Ekitike is chief among those having caught the eye in Germany. But according to Sky Sport Germany, he would have to wait until later in the window to seal a move to Anfield.

That is because Liverpool need to sell players first in order to put together the funds for a move. It is expected that Frankfurt will demand around £85m for the Frenchman if they are to sell, with Frankfurt chief Markus Krosche having already made clear they will not undersell their star asset.

He said: “If the price isn’t right, then he’ll simply stay with us. We don’t have to sell Hugo.”

“He’s one of the most interesting strikers on the European market. Hugo has to decide that,” he added at the end of the season. “I’m glad we have him. If he decides otherwise, that’s our motto: If a player develops faster than us, we let him go.”

And in the meantime, Liverpool also have alternatives. Newcastle hitman Alexander Isak has long-term admirers at Anfield, with Magpies chiefs concerned that a big-money bid could be on the way later in the window.

They have already attempted to fight off that interest by offering him a new deal that would see Isak become the highest-paid player in the history of the club. Elsewhere, Osimhen would represent a slightly more affordable option.

The Nigerian appears to have little future at Napoli having spent last season on loan with Turkish giants Galatasaray. The 26-year-old still scored 37 goals in all competitions last term. Osimhen reportedly has a €75m (£63m) release clause written into his contract with parent side Napoli.

Away from a new striker, Liverpool are also chasing a new centre-back. They are closing in on the signing of Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi, with Jarell Quansah on the verge of a move to Bayer Leverkusen.
