Lottie Tomlinson teary-eyed as she reflects on family loss in emotional video

Louis Tomlinson’s sister Lottie Tomlinson is a guest on the next episode of Giovanna Fletcher’s Happy Mum, Happy Baby podcast and she’s set to discuss loss within her family

Makeup artist Lottie Tomlinson emotionally opened up about loss in her family in a podcast teaser this week. She’s set to discuss experiencing grief, including over the death of her mother Johannah Deakin, in the upcoming episode.

Lottie, 26, and her six siblings, who include One Direction’s Louis Tomlinson, 33, lost their mother Johannah, who was aged 43, in 2016 following a leukaemia diagnosis. Less than three years later they experienced another bereavement as Lottie’s sister Félicité Tomlinson died aged 18 in 2019.

Over the years, the family have spoken about their loss. It’s now been revealed that Lottie opens up about navigating grief on the next episode of the Happy Mum, Happy Baby podcast. She spoke to host Giovanna Fletcher, 40, recently for the episode, which is due to be released on Tuesday.

Ahead of its release, a teaser clip shared on Instagram this evening shows Lottie emotionally talking about her family. She shares at one point on the podcast: “It’s not been easy but we’ve just stuck together as a family.” She adds in the clip released today: “We’re getting there. We’re rebuilding.”

Seemingly speaking about her late mother, she says: “It’s just sad that she’s not here with us.” It’s then referenced that Lottie moved back home following Johannah’s death, with it previously revealed that she took on a parental role for her younger siblings Félicité, twins Phoebe and Daisy, then 12, and twins Doris and Ernie, who were two.

Giovanna said: “You moved back for a bit to be there for the little ones.” Lottie is then heard telling the podcast host: “Because they were two.” She went on to mention that when her mother died her youngest siblings Doris and Ernie were the same age as her own son Lucky, two, is now.

Lottie said: “That’s what hurts the most when I speak about it it’s because Lucky’s two now.” Teary-eyed, she added: “Losing a mum at that age is just so so sad and traumatising for them, y’know.”

Later in the teaser clip, Lottie is heard discussing having become a parent at a similar time to some of her siblings. The makeup artist shares her son Lucky and four-month-old daughter Flossie with her fiancé Lewis Burton, 33.

Giovanna said: “And with your siblings as well, it’s that thing of, not only have your got your own family now, but seeing that that family growing and expanding.” Lottie responded: “Louis’s got a little boy. I’ve got Lucky and Flossie, and [Phoebe] has got Olive. It’s just the best. It’s like we’re recreating y’know what we grew up with with all the kids and it’s so nice to be able to do it together.”

The teaser for the podcast episode comes after Lottie spoke about dealing with her grief in an interview with the Mirror recently. Sharing her thoughts with us, she said: “I feel like being with my family is just the best therapy for me.”

Lottie added in the interview, published earlier this week: “That’s all I’ve ever wanted and now that I’ve finally got that, it brings me so much comfort and it makes me feel closer to the people I’ve lost. It’s been like a healing thing for me.”

The next episode of Happy Mum, Happy Baby featuring Lottie as a guest is set to be released on podcast platforms on Tuesday.
