Louise Thompson’s mum Karen has shared the secret behind her eternally youthful looking skin, with one skincare product in particular being a favourite for the 62 year old
Whether you’re a beauty fanatic or not, there’s one thing every single person should have in their daily routine – a skincare regime. It doesn’t have to be elaborate, expensive or time consuming, but as Louise Thompson and her mum, Karen Thompson, shared, taking care of your skin keeps it looking feeling healthier, fuller and more youthful as you age.
The former Made in Chelsea star raved about how 62 year old Karen always looks “20 years younger”. “It’s never too early to start anti-ageing” Louise said, before Karen added: “It’s never too late either.”
Louise also shared that there’s one product in particular that Karen introduced her to, the REN Clean Skincare Bio Retinoid Youth Serum, £46.20 (was £57.75). The duo raved about its benefits, with Karen saying: “It just feels really light and smooth when you apply it and glowy, it just feels good.”

The serum is a great option for those who find traditional retinols too harsh, as it’s packed full of plant-based ingredients which have similar effects without the intensity. The Ren Bio Retinoid Serum contains Bidens Pilosa, which resurfaces and refreshes your skin whilst simultaneously minimising the risk of irritation thanks to the addition of ceramides.
Ceramides not only help lock in moisture for plumper, more hydrated skin, but they also repair and maintain your skin’s natural barrier. It also contains niacinamide, which is a skincare saviour designed to help even out your skin tone and leave your skin looking brighter.
Overall, the serum is a saviour for fighting those telltale signs of ageing, helping to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, as well as improving your skin’s elasticity and firmness, leaving it looking fuller and tauter.
Karen shared that her skincare routine consists of simply a cleanser, a serum and a moisturiser, proving that it’s far better to have a streamlined routine that you can stick to religiously than an elaborate 10 step regime that you can’t maintain. Thankfully the REN serum can be used as part of both your morning and evening routine, making it a beauty must-have for.
Other shoppers were also a fan of it too, with one writing: “Really enjoyed using this, only applied it at night and by the morning my skin felt smoother and brighter! Lovely texture, absorbs quick and easy to layer under my night cream.”
Another added: “Honestly the best serum I’ve ever used. Doesn’t leave a sticky film on the skin and works really well under the rest of your skincare and makeup too. My skin felt so soft after the first couple of days. Definitely recommend.”
However some shared that they weren’t a fan of the serum’s scent and claimed it put them off using it. Another great alternative to traditional retinol is Medik8’s Bakuchiol Peptides Retinol Alternative Peptide-Infused Serum , £55, which has become a cult favourite over the years for its impressive results. It’s lightweight, calming on sensitive skin, and even safe to be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding, which traditional retinols aren’t.
