Love Island winner glad she ‘fell off’ fame train amid ‘anxiety inducing’ post-villa life

By staff21 October 2025No Comments3 Mins Read

Love Island series five winner Amber Gill admitted that she’s glad she “fell off” the fame train, revealing that it was the wake up call she needed amid the pressure of post-villa life

Love Island winner Amber Gill has admitted that she’s glad she “fell off” the fame train after her appearance on the hit reality TV show.

Amber won series five of the show with ex-partner Greg O’Shea. She was in the villa with the likes of Tommy Fury, Molly-Mae Hague and Maura Higgins.

Amber and Greg broke up just five weeks after the pair won the prize money. Shortly after their split, Amber called herself the “first solo winner of Love Island”.

Speaking on her podcast Just Existing, Amber looked back on her life before and directly after the show. She revealed that after gaining over two million followers from her appearance on the show, she faced extreme pressure in trying to create content and had little to no experience.

“[Before the show] I didn’t really post anything so it was throwing me very firmly into the deep end,” she said. “It was getting to the point where I was getting like 900,000 likes on an Instagram photo which is insane and I was still thinking, ‘Why is it not a million? How come I only got 2000 comments and why not 3000?'”

“I kind of felt like I needed to have a bit of a fall off just to have a reality check and be grateful for what’s going on around us,” Amber added. “I feel like I was totally disconnected and I think that era of my life was uncomfortable, it was very anxiety inducing.”

Amber explained that having an online presence comes with “a lot of pressure, making sure you’re always doing the right thing.”

Since her time on the show, she has released a clothing line with Misspap. She co-wrote a book, Until I Met You, based around a Black love story, as she felt underrepresented in the media when she was younger. The book was released in July 2022.

The 27-year -old Newcastle native is set to release her second fiction novel, One Summer in Miami. She opens up about celebrating and representing queer joy, her most significant life lessons, and her appreciation for therapy.
