Marcel Somerville has revealed he had second thoughts about staying in the Love Island: All Stars villa after coming face-to-face with his ex Gabby Allen on the ITV2 show
Love Island All Stars contestant Marcel Somerville has admitted that he nearly left the villa on the first day of the show.
Marcel shocked Love Island fans when he revealed he was entering the All Stars villa, but has admitted in an exclusive chat with The Mirror that he almost quit after coming face-to-face with his ex Gabby Allen in there.
The former Islander first entered the villa in 2017 and was coupled up with Gabby Allen. The pair stayed in a relationship for 10 months after the show, however they split up after Marcel cheated on Gabby while the pair were on holiday – leaving them on frosty terms for the next eight years.
The exes were forced to reunite for the first time when the pair both ended up in the All Stars villa, creating an awkward first encounter which led Marcel to consider leaving. Speaking on the Daily Mirror’s Bombshell Briefing podcast, Marcel revealed why.
“Walking in, you’re not expecting to see your ex, but then at the same time I was like, ‘Ah it’s my ex,'” he said. Marcel quickly realised they weren’t on good terms after seven years, which left him a “little taken aback” – but the pair managed to get through it and sort out their difference.
Going back into the villa meant he and Gabby were put back in the same environment they initially met in, and it’s something the star said was tricky. He explained: “In the back of my mind, I knew there was always a possibility [Gabby could be on the show] but I was hoping that the possibility wasn’t there.
“I feel like if she wasn’t there, it would have been a different situation for me. The first day was the red flag game, and she had been in there talking to all the girls before, so I had an X on me already, and it was a hard way to start the show.”
Marcel added that he was able to “navigate the situation” and started to enjoy himself. But that didn’t come without his doubts. He confessed: “On the first day I did have moments where I was like, ‘Maybe I should leave as I want Gabby to have a good time.'”
He considered leaving so Gabby could enjoy herself in there without the stress of the pair’s frosty relationship, but because they had conversations and a hug, they managed to get to a good place – especially as they had to share a bed for three days. Marcel was then coupled up with Olivia Hawkins, but the pair were then voted out of the villa on day 10.
