In a harrowing situation, a man who’d just won an enormous lottery jackpot of £26 million, tragically passed away during what should’ve been a routine trip to visit his dentist
A 73-year-old man suffered a heart attack and subsequently died, just weeks after winning a staggering £26million in the lottery.
On December 4, Antonio Lopes Siqueira, collapsed during a routine dental appointment in Cuiaba, in the Brazilian state of Matto Grosso. The cattle rancher had just won an astonishing sum of BRL 201 million (£25.7m) in the South American nation’s Mega-Sena draw on November 9.
The man, whose life was meant to change forever, sadly died in the waiting room just prior to his appointment. In the aftermath of the horrible incident, the police were informed by the coroners that they could not determine the cattle baron’s cause of death.
With this in mind, the authorities launched an investigation. An autopsy conducted after Siqueira lost his life, showed that he’d suffered a massive cardiorespiratory arrest. However, it has not been confirmed as his official cause of death.
It has also been reported that the Brazilian suffered from high blood pressure, as well as diabetes. A spokesperson for the state’s forensic medical department, Politec, said: “Additional exams will be necessary for this conclusion.”
Further tests will now be conducted to determine whether the lottery winner had a pre-existing condition, was suffering from a degree of shock due to the massive change in his life, or if something more sinister, such as murder, could have occurred.
His enormous victory came from a lucky dip pick, and has ranked inside the top 10 highest cash wins in Brazilian history. Siqueira, who picked the numbers 13, 15, 33, 43, 46 and 55, overcame 50 million to one odds, to win the prize.
Mega-Sena lottery spokesperson, Yesser Dahrouge, claimed the winner purchased a ticket every week and would make jokes that he would walk away with the win. He said: “It’s very sad; everyone dreams of earning money like this. It’s a shame that he didn’t live to enjoy it.”
