Police have launched an urgent hunt for a group of fare dodgers who violently attacked an off-duty officer after confronting them.
The British Transport Police have released CCTV images showing four men and two women they would like to speak to after a group attempted to barge through the barriers at Wood Green Underground Station on June 12.
An off-duty police officer confronted the group after seeing them try to dodge their fare. However, she was punched and kicked and had a drink thrown over her head, according to authorities.
The British Transport Police said: “At around 4.20pm on Thursday 12 June the victim, an off duty police officer, challenged a group of people who attempted to barge through the barrier without tickets.
“She was then set upon by the group who punched and kicked her and threw a drink over her head.
“Officers would like to speak to the people pictured as they believe they could have information which could help their investigation.”
The attack comes after Transport for London announced in April it was going to clamp down on fare dodgers.
Shadow Lord Chancellor and Shadow Secretary of State for Justice, Robert Jenrick, made headlines after footage of him challenging TFL commuters over fare evasion went viral.
Meanwhile, three young men were rushed to hospital following a stabbing outside Willesden Green Underground Station last week.
The incident happened near the Central Masjid of Brent. However, police have ruled out any direct connection to the mosque or any religious motivation behind the incident. A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said: “Two 21-year-old men and a 20-year-old man were taken to hospital with stab injuries. We await an update on their condition.”
A 20-year-old woman who reported breathing difficulties declined medical treatment at the scene, the force added. Although no arrests have yet been made, the spokesperson continued: “There are no concerns about any impact to the wider community.”
A spokesperson for London Ambulance Service said: “We were called at 9.02pm today to reports of a stabbing on Walm Lane, NW2. We treated four people in total – two were taken to major trauma centres, one to another local hospital, and one declined further treatment.”
The road was cordoned off for several hours while forensic officers gathered evidence at the scene. Specialist CBRN (Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear) responders were deployed but were later stood down after it was confirmed not to be a chemical incident.
