The Great Run Company have released a statement confirming that a 28-year-old man died during a half marathon in Bristol over the weekend after tragically collapsing
A 28-year-old man has sadly died after collapsing during The Great Bristol Run over the weekend. The tragic news was confirmed in a statement on Monday by the race organisers.
Jon Devereux, from Chester, received immediate medical treatment after collapsing during a half marathon race in Bristol on Sunday. He sadly passed away later in hospital.
The statement from The Great Run Company confirming the news read: “It is with great sadness that The Great Run Company confirms the death of a participant at the Great Bristol Run on Sunday, 11 May 2025.
“Jon Devereux, aged 28, collapsed during the event, received immediate medical treatment, and later passed away in hospital.
“His next of kin have been informed. The entire team involved in organising the Great Bristol Run extends their heartfelt condolences to Mr Devereux’s family and friends.
“In accordance with the wishes of the family, no further details will be released. The cause of death will be determined later, pending medical examination.”
Thousands of people took to Bristol to participate in the half marathon and a separate 10k event over the weekend.
The Great Run Company put on similar events across six different locations across the UK with over 250,000 people participating in such races each year, including The Great Manchester Run and The Great North Run.
