A 32-year-old passenger who was travelling on an easyJet flight from Hurghada in Egypt to the UK was arrested at Manchester Airport as soon as the plane landed, police said
A wanted man was arrested at a UK airport as soon as the easyJet plane he was travelling on touched down.
Police officers were waiting for the 32-year-old passenger when the flight landed at Manchester Airport on Tuesday morning. Flight EZY2252, which left Hurghada in Egypt on Monday, had been diverted to Brindisi in Italy after another passenger was taken ill.
Passengers said they were stuck on the runway for “two hours” from 2am until the plane took off for Manchester at around 4am. But despite the delay, officers waited at the airport to detain the man who was wanted in connection with drug supply offences in Bradford.
A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police said: “A 32-year-old man was arrested in connection with an investigation into the supply of Class A drugs in Bradford. He was later released under investigation. Enquiries are continuing.”
One passenger on-board the easyJet flight described the journey as a “nightmare”. Commenting on the diversion to Italy, an easyJet spokesperson said: “Flight EZY2252 from Hurghada to Manchester on September 22 diverted to Brindisi, due to a customer onboard requiring urgent medical attention.
“The customer was met by medical services on arrival and the flight then continued to Manchester. The safety and wellbeing of our customers and crew is always easyJet’s highest priority.”
EasyJet did not comment on the man’s arrest.
