A “drunken thug” has been banned from every pub in England and Wales after a “vicious attack” left a man needing reconstructive surgery. Paul Ormond, 38, has been slapped with a nationwide pub ban after carrying out a savage assault in the Turks Head pub in Nottingham following a day of drinking. The thug assaulted the victim in the boozer after an argument at around 10.40pm on July 6, hitting him in the head. The man was left with serious facial fractures to his eye, nose and cheeks. He underwent multiple surgeries and needed plates in his face.

After pleading guilty to causing grievous bodily harm without intent, Ormond appeared at Nottingham Crown Court on Thursday, April 3, and was handed a two-year suspended prison sentence. He was banned from entering public houses across England and Wales for the next two years and will be fitted with an alcohol monitoring tag for 120 days. Additionally, he’ll be monitored for alcohol consumption via a tag for 120 days, which will sample his sweat every half hour.

The court heard a heart-wrenching victim impact statement detailing the profound effects on the victim’s self-esteem, personal life, and derailed plans for moving overseas, reports Nottinghamshire Live. Labelled a “drunken thug” by Recorder Sprawson during sentencing, Ormond must also complete 120 hours of unpaid work and cough up £7,500 in compensation to the victim.

The perpetrator, with a rap sheet that includes wounding with intent, affray, and assaulting an officer, has been sentenced. PC Andrew Sansom of Nottinghamshire Police remarked: “This was a vicious attack which continues to have a significant impact on the victim to this day.” He added: “We hope the sentencing makes a serious impact on the offender’s future choices. Violence is completely unacceptable and we will always do what we can to put perpetrators before the courts.”

The horrific attack comes just weeks after an aspiring dentist was left permanently scarred following a pub assault in Liverpool. Mark Nolan, 39, downed seven bottles of beer before using two of them to attack his victims. His violent outburst came after a woman made an accusation of sexual assault against his cousin, Raymond Perry. He then launched a barstool towards one of the men, who was left with a broken cheekbone and permanently scarred. The victim told the court he “could have been blinded or killed” as a result of the attack.

David Watson, prosecuting, said Perry was pushed to the chest by the other man in the foyer, but then responded by punching him twice to the face. Nolan was shown on CCTV running over from the table where he had been seated and striking the complainant over the head with a beer bottle before the incident was broken up by security staff. Perry pleaded guilty to affray and assault occasioning actual bodily harm. He was handed nine-months imprisonment suspended for 18 months plus 180 hours of unpaid work and a rehabilitation activity requirement of up to 15 days.
