A woman was left stunned when she had arranged to meet a man for a date – only for him to bring his wife along so she could be vetted to make sure she wasn’t prettier than her
A recently divorced woman decided to take the plunge and try dating – until the man brought his wife along as well.
Sarah Ingram Elizabeth decided to get back into the dating pool after being married for 19 years but didn’t want to be tied down to another man – so signed up to an extra-marital dating site where she could meet men who were open to having affairs. Illicit Encounters is a site where people can discreetly meet married individuals who are interested in extramarital meetups, claiming “marriages are happier as a result of affairs”. Sarah had happily been dating men from the website but was gobsmacked when one man she’d been chatting to turned up with his wife on their date.
Thinking she was speaking to someone who was discreetly messaging her, the 53-year-old was unhappy to find out his wife wanted to vet her. Sarah, a travel consultant from the West Midlands said she has no interest in breaking up marriages but was stunned when she was told the man’s wife had come along to make sure she wasn’t prettier than her.
“I’ve met some lovely men on the site, men I wouldn’t have normally crossed paths with. They know that I want to keep my independence and that I have no interest in breaking up their marriages, so it works very well for everyone involved,” Sarah explained. She added that she’d had some “hilarious” encounters, including the time she was vetted over her attractiveness.
She said: “He was given permission to seek a mistress but she wasn’t allowed to be prettier than his wife. I think his relationship was already dead in the water but she wished – for whatever reason, I neither know nor care – to remain married. I met him at a restaurant and I sat down and then she came over after we’d been chatting for a few minutes. Clearly, she’d been watching, unbeknownst to me. I wasn’t best pleased and told him so. He said he was sorry but told me he thought I wouldn’t turn up if I’d known his wife wanted to vet me.”
Sarah said she wouldn’t have gone on the date if she knew what was going to happen and revealed the man told her his wife had “permitted” him to “indulge” with other women as long as they weren’t as pretty as her. She added: “I don’t know which scale she was using but I sat and thought for a few moments whilst the awkward silence clearly made him uneasy and then, before waiting to be graded, I explained that it simply wasn’t going to end well for any of us, excused myself and wished him well.”
Sarah revealed she had another strange experience where she had arranged to meet a man at 6:30pm but claimed he had told her to “leave by 7pm” as the next lady was due at 7:15 and he “didn’t want them meeting in the bar”. She said she then stood him up, while another date she’d been on she claimed had told her he needed to leave by 9:30 as he lived with his mother and she would have locked the door.
Despite some of the bad, Sarah gushed that she’s had many “enjoyable” relationships after joining the site. She admitted that seeing married men can be “very freeing” and added: “People don’t understand the dynamics behind extra-marital affairs. Sarah explained: “There are complex reasons behind people considering it as an option, but the bottom line is, I absolutely don’t believe that we stay the same people all our lives. We change. Ideally, we should change as a couple, but the world we live in isn’t like it used to be when marriage was seen as sacred. It’s a tricky one but ultimately, don’t judge a situation until you’ve been there.”
