Shopping in charity stores can be time-consuming, but very exciting when you spot a rare item. You hit a home run by finding a cheap item which is worth a lot more than its listing, or the entire experience might be underwhelming.

Now Chris, who is a part-time seller on eBay and Vinted, couldn’t believe his luck after finding an antique at his local charity shop which was sitting on the shelf for a ridiculously low price. The bargain hunter, who boasts over 5,000 followers on TikTok, often delights his social media fans with his latest purchases – and this latest one is no different.

In a recent clip, he told fans he spotted this antique item the other day.

“Now I haven’t got around to putting this on the shelf but as soon as I spotted it, I knew I had to get my hands on it before anyone else could,” he began. “And surprisingly, it was priced up at just £4.50.”

He continued: “Now I’m not even going to attempt to pronounce exactly what this is, but this is basically what you’re looking at.

“It’s French, made from porcelain and is dated from the early 1900s so it’s old and put it this way, it’s worth way more than £4.50.”

He mentioned how the same item has been listed on two websites, with one asking for $495 (£374), while another is $315 (£238).

It’s also on eBay for around £209, while another previously sold for an eye-watering £205.

Chris revealed: “Now I thought for £4.50 there might be something wrong with it but I gave it inspection in the shop and I’m pleased to say there was no cracks or any noticeable damage on it.

“So considering the great condition of this item, I’m going to list this at around £200.”

To value a charity shop item, first check its physical condition and brand, then use your phone to research online.

You can also look for labels or brand names, as well as check the condition for any defects, and use apps like Google Lens to find similar items and their resale value on sites like eBay or Etsy.

Popular categories for resale include designer clothes, vintage items, vinyl records, and board games.

And if you plan to resell locally, see what prices other thrift stores or similar shops are charging for comparable goods.
