A TikTok creator posted a video to explain how he uses Chat GPT to make his grocery list for two weeks with a set budget. But people have mixed reviews about the trick
A man has found a unique way to do his grocery shopping to save money.
TikTok creator Ejay Hernandez, who is based in the US, explained how he uses ChatGPT to make a grocery list with a particular budget. He asked for a shopping list that provides enough food for breakfast, lunch and dinner for two weeks.
ChatGPT is an artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot which uses natural language processing to create human-like conversational dialogue, answer questions, write content and have conversations. Ejay created a video on TikTok to encourage others to use the AI tool for their grocery shopping but some people had mixed views on this.
Speaking in the video, he said: “Okay, I’m going to hold your hand when I say this. You need to use ChatGPT for your grocery list. It is a lifesaver.”
In his example, he asked ChatGPT to make a grocery list with a $70 (£56) budget for two weeks. He added: “You can also adjust it to be like but you know I want this meal for like whatever.
“You could also say I want it to be protein heavy. I want it to have not a lot of carbs. I want there to be a lot of fibre involved.”
Ejay added the chat bot will you give you the specific products to buy and can show you the grams of protein each meal has. It also asks if you want substitutions.
The TikTok creator, from LA, continued: “It is so great with substitutions because it’s like if you don’t want a certain thing in your meal you say ‘I don’t want that, can you change it to this instead?’
“It’ll find you another item that the store has and it will show you the price and it will adjust it based on the budget and I will say it is pretty accurate, sometimes it is a little bit over but not by much I’d say like literally one or two dollars, it is not crazy, and you can also ask if it can give you some leeway for snacks or chips or little comfort foods too and it just saves my life and I think everybody should start doing that.”
Ejay captioned his TikTok video: “This has saved my life and my wallet, let me save yours!” The video racked up an incredible 9.6million views, 1.3million likes and more than 10,000 comments.
One TikTok user said: “I’ve been using this for months and had it curate recipes and even literally write out the recipes for me. So easy and worth it.”
Another added: “I use ChatGPT for therapy, all my business ideas, grocery shopping, major life decisions, it’s pretty much a domestic partnership.” A third commented: “I used ChatGPT to do meal plans! ‘Make me a no cook meal plan for 4 weeks for 1,600 calories a day and include breakfast, lunch and dinner’. It was amazing! You can do so many things with it.”
A fourth claimed ChatGPT is becoming their “personal assistant”. However, some TikTok users were concerned about how much energy is needed to use ChatGPT.
One urged: “Please look into how much resources are used per AI enquiry. We literally cannot produce the energy and the water consumption is going to break us.”
Others claimed: “One ChatGPT is equivalent to using a desk lamp for 2 hours,” and “Make sure no one is using ChatGPT for every little thing! This is a great idea but please make your searches meaningful as each one uses a bottle’s worth of water.”
