Man ‘outsmarts’ Tesco as he shares how he managed to halve cost of his food shop

By staff9 October 2025No Comments4 Mins Read

There is nothing like a decent unexpected saving, and one man could not believe his eyes recently when he saw how much was discounted off his big Tesco food shop

There’s nothing quite like the thrill of bagging an unexpected bargain. With the cost of our weekly shop and bills skyrocketing, it’s crucial to save where we can. It’s always a savvy move to nab a loyalty card for your favourite shops, cafes, and eateries – you could score freebies or discounts if you spend a certain amount or purchase specific items.

A man named Will was left gobsmacked after he managed to slash a hefty sum off his Tesco food shop. He reckons he’s “mastered the art of savings”. Thanks to his Clubcard, the shopper saved over £60. Clubcards offer substantial savings through Clubcard Prices, allowing members to rack up points for discounts on groceries and partner rewards.

Sharing his triumph on the Facebook page, Dull Men’s Centre, the shopper posted a snap of the self-checkout screen showing his final bill of £60. His savings, highlighted in bright yellow, totalled a whopping £66.62.

He confessed that he hasn’t always been a fan of Tesco Clubcard prices, but this time around, he was chuffed to bits.

The 26-year-old shopper shared: “Today’s adventure at Tesco’s self-service checkout was nothing short of thrilling for a true connoisseur of frugality like myself. Armed with my shopping list and a steadfast determination to conquer the art of savings, I embarked on a mission to outsmart Tesco, and boy, did I succeed.”

He added: “As the numbers flashed on the screen, I spent a modest £60.10 on my essentials. But here’s the kicker – the total savings reached an impressive £66.62. Yes, you read that right.

“Not only did I manage to procure all my necessities, but I also emerged victorious in the savings game. It’s moments like these that make life as a dull man truly exhilarating.”

Amazed by the bargains, one person remarked: “I honour your frugal endeavours.” Meanwhile another replied: “You need to teach this.”

A third added: “There is me happy this morning at saving 22 quid, but that’s impressive.” Someone else commented: “I’d like to see the full receipt to see what you saved on, to see if I can also do it.

“I need to know what you bought,” penned another. One queried: “But, how many things did you buy to save this much . £62 on what else?”.

“You were obviously doing something wrong when you went shopping at Tesco today,” another said tagging a friend.

Others hurried to reveal their own money-saving tales. One person revealed: “I had a total of £164 this went down to £54 shopping list the length of my inside leg.”

Another disclosed: “One time when my kids were both still in nappies, we got a bunch of coupons through Tesco for nappies. I can’t remember exactly how he worked it, but my husband managed to get Tesco to pay HIM money to take away two big packs of pampers.”

One shopper recalled a fantastic bargain they bagged at Tesco, sharing: “I stopped at a Tesco to pick up something for supper and saw some trays of meat on a 3 for £10 deal reduced to 10p each. Did a quick guess at the room in my freezer and bought 30 of them. The till decided that the reduction still applied and charged me 20p per three. Six of the packs were liver which I don’t eat, my cats loved them.”

Another customer noted: “If only the prices wasn’t massively inflated before using the Clubcard… makes it more of a normal competitive price.”
