Man pays £1.75 to stay at ‘world’s cheapest Airbnb’ and issues honest verdict

By staff26 September 2025No Comments3 Mins Read

Nacho Barrueco decided to see how the ‘world’s cheapest Airbnb’ would be, staying in a room which cost just £1.75 a night, and also came with warnings not to step on parts of the floor

A man who paid £1.75 to stay at the “world’s cheapest Airbnb” has issued an honest verdict on the room and owner. Nacho Barrueco shared he was fascinated by the stay as he wanted to spend a night in the “cheapest place in the world.” He did just that on a trip to Bangkok, Thailand, and says the experience has left him quite surprised.

The host of the Airbnb property showed him around, with Nacho’s first impressions of the accommodation not entirely positive. Bin bags by the shack-like property and a rickety ladder to get to the room were not positive signs.

But Nacho, 26, stuck around and was delighted by his room after the “dangerous” ladder climb to get there. He joked with the property host that the method of entering the room was a little wild, but was thoroughly impressed with what was inside.

He said: “Well, well, well, wonderful. Private room, mosquito net, fan, lots of scent.” There were signs scattered around the room noting not to step on certain parts of the floor as they would fall through the boards.

Beyond a potential fall, the room itself was rather nice, though Nacho did note the potential injuries that came with the room.

He said: “The thing is, there are so many holes, if I step too hard here, I’ll end up down there.”

The Spanish national even credited the owner with making the experience as nice as can be. He said: “I was quite struck by the modest nature of the neighbourhood and the accommodations on offer.

“The experience from the moment I arrived until I settled in was very powerful and made me appreciate the owner’s efforts. The most striking thing was the authenticity of the place: it felt like I was stepping back in time.

“I was also struck by how the owner tried to maintain everything as well as possible, despite the state of the neighbourhood.

“I even thought about staying for a third night, but there was no availability.”

Locals were also stunned by the price of the room, with those staying in Nacho’s hometown of Madrid bracing themselves for £170 a night stays. One said: “In Madrid, they charge you €200 a night.”

Another added: “I saw a young man using the resources at his disposal and putting all his effort into starting a business, I hope he does well and one day has a profitable inn.”

A third praised the owner of the property and the little details they added to make the stay a success, particularly a welcome package.

They praised the Airbnb owner, writing: “The fact they printed your name and laminated it is incredible, not even in the best hotels do that!”
