Man runs into pub after having hand ‘cut clean off’ in attack at birthday party

By staff29 September 2025No Comments4 Mins Read

Police rushed to a pub in Huyton, Merseyside after a man whose hand had been ‘cut clean off’ ran into the venue from a property nearby where a party had been held

A man ran into a pub after “having his hand cut clean off” in a horrific attack at a birthday party.

Police were called to The Stanley Arms pub in Huyton, Merseyside, at around 12.20am on Saturday. Neighbours alleged the victim was attacked during a house party at a nearby property and ran into the pub which is located across the road.

According to a witness, the man’s hand was “clean off” when he entered the pub, which was moments from closing. Neighbours claimed there had been an 18th birthday party at the home on Friday night, with a banner visible on the front door.

Merseyside Police said the man has suffered a “potentially life-changing” injury, while a girl, 17, also suffered a minor hand injury during the incident. A witness told the Liverpool Echo that the man ran into the pub with “part of his harm hacked off.”

A police investigation has been launched and according to reports, dry blood was visible on the door frame and door step of the property. An 18-year-old man has since been arrested on suspicion of s18 grievous bodily harm with intent and s18 wounding with intent.

He remains in custody. The injured man remains in hospital. A large police presence has remained at the address throughout the weekend and into Monday, with scientific support officers working in and around the address.

The pub remained shut on Saturday while professional cleaners worked at the scene. One witness said: “There was blood everywhere and the pub was seconds away from locking the doors when he ran in.”

A spokesperson for The Stanley Arms said: “On Friday night our team were called on to help a local member of the community who came into our venue after closing time seeking help for a serious injury. Emergency services were called and the individual received treatment.”

Merseyside Police said in a statement on Saturday: “Detectives are appealing for information following a serious assault in Huyton in the early hours of this morning, Saturday 27 September.

“At around 12.20am, emergency services were called to The Stanley Arms on Roby Road to reports of an 18-year-old male entering the premises with a serious injury to his arm, believed to have been sustained at a party in a nearby address.

“The male has been taken to hospital and is in a serious but stable condition. A 17-year-old female sustained a minor hand injury. Officers remain at the scene to carry out CCTV, forensic and house-to-house enquiries as we look to establish the circumstances.”

Detective Inspector Graeme Osborne said: “This was an assault with a bladed weapon, which has left the victim in hospital for treatment of a serious and potentially life-changing injury.

“Some of those people present may have seen or heard what happened, and indeed know who was involved.

“To have seen this assault will undoubtedly have been upsetting, but we need to gather all information possible, which includes witness accounts, CCTV, or any other footage or images from those present, living or passing nearby.“Officers will be in the area today and it is vital that people come forward as a matter of urgency, and we are determined to find those responsible. Knife crime can have fatal consequences and devastates families and communities. “Key to reducing such incidents is information from those people affected, whether you know someone is carrying weapons, or intent on using them. Speak to us or anonymously through Crimestoppers and we can all make a difference.”“Anyone with information on the incident should contact the Merseyside Police social media desk @MerPolCC on X and Facebook quoting reference 25000797038.

“You can also report information via their website or call 101. Alternatively, contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111, or via their website here.

The Mirror has contacted Merseyside Police for an update on their investigation.
