Man United stance on Xavi appointment made clear after Ruben Amorim decision

By staff29 September 2025No Comments3 Mins Read

Ruben Amorim is under increasing pressure at Manchester United following Saturday’s 3-1 defeat at Brentford and different coaches have been linked with being his successor

Former Barcelona manager Xavi has reportedly expressed his eagerness to take over from Ruben Amorim at Manchester United, according to fresh claims. Amorim finds himself facing mounting scrutiny following yet another Premier League setback.

Saturday’s crushing 3-1 defeat at Brentford marked the Portuguese coach’s 17th loss in just 33 league matches since taking charge. With only six fixtures completed this season, United languish in a disappointing 14th position.

The Manchester Evening News reports that Amorim still has support from the United hierarchy, with club insiders insisting no potential successors are currently being considered.

Nevertheless, numerous managers have been linked to the role, following the disappointing result at the Gtech Community Stadium. Gareth Southgate, Andoni Iraola, Oliver Glasner and Fabian Hurzeler have all emerged as possible candidates on United’s shortlist.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano claims Xavi would eagerly seize the chance to manage at Old Trafford. The reporter revealed that the Spanish tactician has been “studying” the Premier League and would “immediately” accept the position if approached.

Romano also suggests that United’s absence from European competition hasn’t deterred Xavi’s interest. The former midfielder remains unemployed after departing Barcelona, where he secured the La Liga championship.

Despite Romano’s assertions, separate reports from The Sun indicate that Xavi has yet to attract genuine consideration from within United’s corridors of power. Despite speculation about his future, Amorim has reiterated that he focuses on improving his team’s performance.

“I am never concerned about my job – I am not that kind of guy,” he stated following the Brentford match “It is not my decision. I will do the best I can every minute I am here.”

He further added: “We need to work on a lot of things. And again today, my biggest concern is we didn’t settle down the game in the final third.

“We missed a lot of crosses. We suffered goals in transition that we knew during the week and work on that. So that is the things that we need to improve.”
