Man Utd agree Andre Onana transfer with loan move for rest of season

Manchester United have reached an agreement to loan out Andre Onana. The Red Devils have come to terms with Turkish side Trabzonspor over a temporary move for the goalkeeper.

While the transfer window slammed shut on September 1 for Premier League clubs to sign players, the Turkish market remains open until September 12. And Onana could yet ply his trade in the Super Lig this season. A final decision over the loan is in the hands of Onana, per reports. The 29-year-old who has a contract until 2028 after signing for United for £42million in 2023, is in talks over personal terms before he will fly out to undergo a medical.

The ex-Inter Milan and Ajax shotstopper has yet to make a Premier League appearance this season, and made errors in United’s Carabao Cup exit to Grimsby. Altay Bayindir started the season in goal for the Red Devils but has enjoyed an uncertain start after Onana missed pre-season as he recovered from injury. Ruben Amorim could yet see another goalkeeper in net against Manchester City following the international break. United signed Belgian star Senne Lammens on transfer deadline day.

The 23-year-old arrived from Royal Antwerp in a £18.2million deal was labelled a goalkeeper of ‘great potential’ by director of football Jason Wilcox.

“Senne is an excellent young goalkeeper with great potential; we are delighted that he has chosen to join Manchester United after significant interest from a number of clubs,” said the former Blackburn midfielder.

Despite that assertion, Lammens could quickly be thrust into the first team picture if Onana departs. Trabzonspor currently sit second in Turkey’s topflight and offer Onana a chance to claim first team football after summer of speculation around his position.

United were also widely linked to signing Aston Villa star Emi Martinez, who expected to depart the Midlands. But it was Lammens who arrived at Old Trafford in a more modest deal.

“I remember being a kid, Manchester United winning the Champions League and winning the league, and also [I want] to help the team get to a level that you can compete for a title again and to play Champions League again,” he said.

“That’s also one of my biggest points, that I want to grow with the team and go up to the heights that used to be Manchester United. It’s one of the biggest clubs in the world and the Premier League is the biggest competition in the world.”
